Bellona Lyrics

These days are getting longer
This song is gonna be so loud
You know one thing you told me?
You have a new name now

(This tim I'll stay for good)

We'll do that flash gold
It burned my shadow gray
Where have those far days got to now?

I saw him in the part-shade
He put his hands down low
What else did I see?
What else did they show?
You think it's so unlike me
Why did the city change me?
Red sky, my eyes closed
The fire came so slow

(This time I'll stay for good)

I think this song is about a guy breaking up with his girl and regretting it. He's asking her to give him another chance and telling her he won't fuck up again by saying this time he'll stay for good, but she's married now, hence, "You have a new name now." In short I think this song is about a break-up, regret, and jealousy.

Hmm. I hear something completely different. It's definitely not "this time I'll stay for good." I'm pretty sure instead it's "all this time I, all this time I stayed for you" and the modulated voice behind it is "well, it shines right through ya." As in, although you're trying, you can't hide what you are really feeling because it shines right out of you, or through you.

But yes, I do think it's about jealousy and regret and either an affair or a near-affair (Where did that flash go? It burned my shadow gray. Where have those five days got to now?) : why did you marry someone else when I know you're in love with me--it shines right through you.

Not 100% but think this song is a reference to the book Dhalgren, which takes place in the fictional US city of Bellona. Involved a massive sun in the sky and a main character who didn't remember his name.
