Lot of Leavin' Left to do Lyrics
These old boots still got a lot of ground
they ain’t covered yet
There’s at least another million miles
under these old bus treads
So if you think I’m gonnna settle down
I‘ve got news for you
I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
And as long as there’s a song
Left in this old guitar
This life I’m bound to lead
Ain’t for the faint of heart
So you won’t fall for me
if you know what’s good for you
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
I guess the Lord made me hard to handle
So lovin’ me might be a long shot gamble
So before you go and turn me on
Be sure that you can turn me loose
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
Girl, you look like you might be an angel
So I won’t lie
I could love you like the devil
if you wanted me to tonight
And we could talk about forever for a day or two
But I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
I guess the Lord made me hard to handle
So lovin’ me might be a long shot gamble
So before you go and turn me on
Be sure that you can turn me loose
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
Yeah, I still got a leavin’ left to do
they ain’t covered yet
There’s at least another million miles
under these old bus treads
So if you think I’m gonnna settle down
I‘ve got news for you
I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
Left in this old guitar
This life I’m bound to lead
Ain’t for the faint of heart
So you won’t fall for me
if you know what’s good for you
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
So lovin’ me might be a long shot gamble
So before you go and turn me on
Be sure that you can turn me loose
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
So I won’t lie
I could love you like the devil
if you wanted me to tonight
And we could talk about forever for a day or two
But I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do
So lovin’ me might be a long shot gamble
So before you go and turn me on
Be sure that you can turn me loose
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do

can't believe nobody commnted on this song yet i think it's one of his best. Basically he's saying he's not ready for a serious relationship so don't get too involved with him which I think represents his lifestyle perfectly. Constantly on the road touring the country. The guy doesn't have a house! Well he has a boat so I guess that can substitute but still it's pretty funny. Either way he's saying that untill he has the time to commit he's not going to try and I can get that. There's no point in trying if you're going to end up in a relationship like that: barely seeing each other, phone calls instead of a candle lit dinner, and ultimately snuggling with his dog (in the video) instead of his girl. It's a wise decision and prevents heartbreak to both parties. I get that, all too well.
I find this song to be fun and all but it bothers me that on the album it is followed by come a little closer, come on Dierks make a decison...
i usually don't like country music but, right now it fits my life pretty well. i'm with an older man who's ready to get married and have children. i, being so young, is so far from that. he's been with plenty of women and i've barely been with one. and it's since to talk about having a future but, we both know that it's gonna be a while till those plans happen.
and this is what this song is about. a guy that's not ready for a serious relationship/marriage just yet. he just wants to have fun right now.
