I must look just like a fool, here in the middle of the road,
Standin' there in your rear view, gettin' soaked to the bone
This land is flat as it is mean, a man can see for a hundred miles
So I'm still prayin' I might see, the glow of a brake light
But your wheels just turn, down the road ahead
If it hurts at all, you ain't showed it yet
I keep lookin' for the slightest sign
That you might miss, what you left behind
I know there's nothin' stopping you now
But I'd settle for a slowdown
I held on longer than I should, believin' you might change your mind
And those bright lights of Hollywood, would fade in time
But your wheels just turn, down the road ahead
If it hurts at all, you ain't showed it yet
I keep lookin' for the slightest sign
That you might miss, what you left behind
I know there's nothin' stopping you now
But I'd settle for a slowdown
But your wheels just turn, down the road ahead
If it hurts at all, you ain't showed it yet
You're just a tiny dot, on that horizon line
Come on tap those brakes, baby just one time
I know there's nothin' stoppin' you now
I'm not asking you to turn back around
I'd settle for a slowdown
Come on just slowdown
I'd settle for a slowdown
I'd settle for a slowdown

this song is beautiful. this song can be taken two ways: literally or metaphorically. literally... just read the lyrics. it's self explainatory. metaphorically, this song is about a person leaving someone, and that someone doesn't really want them to go. though they realize it's just not going to work out, one just wants to see that they were worth something, and that what they had actually was worth their time. hence the name of the song, "settle for a slowdown".
just amazing. i can relate.
the best way i can explain this though is through personal experiance. i dated this amazing boy, but we broke up for reasons. and we're still pretty good friends. well he already has a new girlfriend and seems to be forgetting about me, and though i miss him, i'm not asking him to come back... i just want to see him have some type of nostalgia for the thought of us, or to know that i was important.
It's definitely about loving someone, and not being enough for them to stay.
Sometimes you hold onto someone hoping that if you love them enough, if you hold them tightly enough that they won't slip away...
But eventually that love isn't enough, and they leave you standing there wishing that they'd stop for just one second...so you'd know that you meant even the littlest bit to them.
It's really just about how you can be with someone for a long time and they can simply up and leave you out of no where and seem to not even feel any pain in doing so.
I too agree with pissykitty16 about the meaning...it's pretty obvious. It's a sad song...all he's asking for is a slowdown to show that she still cares even if it's not enough to turn back around.
but other than that love the song has a really great video
