Postcard of a Painting Lyrics
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever have.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever give.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever have.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever give to you.
picture me with you,
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
your eyes are big when they're so close,
Why can't we say goodbye in public..,
your eyes are big when they're so close,
Why can't we say goodbye in public..,
picture me with you,
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
and i'll admit that there's a web,
but it wasn't me who spun it.
now i'm in my bed,
but you wouldn't lie down in it.
i wrote my feelings down in a rush,
i didn't even check the spelling.
and closed the postcard of a painting.
you are just another thing that i have yet,
yet to fathom.
oh, you are just another thing that i've yet to fathom.
and i'm loosing more than i'd ever have,
and i'm loosing more than i'll ever give to you.
picture me with you,
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
and i'll admit that there's a web,
but it wasn't me who spun it.
now i made my bed,
but you wouldn't lie down in it.
more than i'd ever have.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever give.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever have.
i'm losing,
more than i'd ever give to you.
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
Why can't we say goodbye in public..,
your eyes are big when they're so close,
Why can't we say goodbye in public..,
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
but it wasn't me who spun it.
now i'm in my bed,
but you wouldn't lie down in it.
i didn't even check the spelling.
and closed the postcard of a painting.
you are just another thing that i have yet,
yet to fathom.
oh, you are just another thing that i've yet to fathom.
and i'm loosing more than i'd ever have,
and i'm loosing more than i'll ever give to you.
but you couldn't do it.
everything i said,
was true but i couldn't proove it.
but it wasn't me who spun it.
now i made my bed,
but you wouldn't lie down in it.

Correction:
Great song.
Meaning: One person isn't particularly interested in having a relationship with the other. The other has to hold back their feelings with this person but its taking its tole on them emotionally. Case of unrequited love in a sense.
"everything I said, was true but I couldn't prove it"
I feel like that all the time.
I LOVE THIS SONG, In sound really good singing along to it too!!!!
I love this song SO much. It's my favourite Maximo Park song, and their my favourite band:) I love the line "Oh you are just another thing I've yet to fathom" Because fathom is such an expressive word in this case. By the way it isn't "and closed the postcard on a guillotine." It's "And closed the postcard of the painting" Hence the name of the song. I also know the lyrics of by heart. Teehehee. LOL. Anyway I think it's about him being in a relationship that isn't working out because she won't open up to him and she seems somehwhat embarassed. Basically, it's going downhill. Heck I dunno! Just a guess:D When I went on school camp I played this on repeat on my walkman coz we drove EVERYWHERE on the bus. To camp Tawera near Mount Ruapahu. (I'm a Kiwi-lives in New Zealand...) Anyway, keep listening to the best band on the planet! Kat xo
Oh and I just realised another mistake, it's "Why can't we say goodbye in public.." not "Why can't we say goodbye and..."
"i wrote my feeling down in a rush, didn't even check the spelling"
genius. i love maximo park and paul just rocks!
this is one of my fav songs from the album.
the part of the postcard and the painting its so greatt when you dont even check the spelling is because u are like so dessperate that u dont care or u are in a rush to send it haha i love maximo and ok it reminds me about having a relationshitp with someone that you see not so often or that its not permited..
There's so many mistakes here I can't even begin.
so give me the right stuff and i'll change it.
"and closed the postcard on a guillotine"...wtf? In what way does that line sound like this?
It's "and closed the postcard of a painting", you know, like the song's title?
