I tried my best
I gave my all
sometimes my best wasn't good enough
for you
sometimes I let you go
sometimes I hurt you so
I know that I can be
the meanest person in the world
so I apoligize to you
and to anyone else that I hurt too
I may not be a perfect soul
but I can learn self-control
so pardon me
pardon me
pardon me my friend
I never thought
that anyone
was more important
then the plans I made
but now I feel the shame
there's no one else to blame
for all the broken hearts
are scattered on the field of war
so I apoligize to you
and to anyone else that I hurt too
I may not be a perfect soul
but I can learn self-control
so pardon me
pardon me
pardon me my friend

but I can learn self-control
and in my heart
I feel it's true
so I will be there with you
so pardon me
pardon me
pardon me my friend
(I really want a friend)
pardon me my friend

this is probably my favortie son gon the new disc. i reallt think Make Believe took the simple, straightforwardness of blue and pink and mixed it with the solos and musicianship of green and maladroit and made an awesome album. Go Weezer.,
this song is pretty straight forward. Obviously Rivers is saying that he's sorry to anyone he's hurt, but I kind of wonder if this song is related to him calling his fans "little bitches" in a guitar world interview. It makes sense to me, but this song can relate to almost anyone on a personal level. findsomepeace is right, it is not at all easy to say 'pardon me' to someone. this song, as simple as it is, can tell anyone what you really mean deep down. great song.
One of the better songs on Make Believe.
I agree with RedLight, great song, Rivers sings so emotionally and gets his point across so greatly, it was AWESOME.
I'm sorry, emotionally intact s is what I meant. Also, Rivers Cuomo will never fail to make WZr the best.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. True, it seems Rivers was a jerk to a lot of people, especially when he tried to manage the band by himself, but he didn't have to make a song about it. Like the rest of the album, this is unforgivably saccharine. He apparently learned nothing at Harvard about writing, instead taking a step back into high school writing quality... Ick.
Obvious, literal meaning...but powerful all the same. Sometimes you unintentionally hurt someone you love and just can't seem to make it up to them. And then you are truly angry at yourself because you hurt them and they will never forget that.
Short version: I'm mean, you don't deserve that, and I'm sorry.

This was my least favorite when I first heard the album, but one year later it's the only one I can actually listen to all the way through.
"I may not be a perfect soul, but i can learn self-control" is a refrence to plato's idea of a soul where a person has to learn self-disipline so that they dont just fulfill bodily desires all the time.
