Haunt You Every Day Lyrics
I don't feel the joy
I don't feel the pain
you were just a toy
I am just insane
walking on my own
leaving you behind
you are crying out
that you need to speak your mind
so alone in love
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
I am gonna kill
when I need a thrill
eating at the heart
'till I've had my fill
when will stupid learn
fire's gonna burn
think of consequence
then you'll move when it's your turn
so alone in love
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
[guitar solo]
walking on my own
leaving you behind
you are crying out
that you need to speak your mind
so alone in love
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
haunt you every day
haunt you every day
[guitar solo]
I don't feel the pain
you were just a toy
I am just insane
leaving you behind
you are crying out
that you need to speak your mind
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
when I need a thrill
eating at the heart
'till I've had my fill
fire's gonna burn
think of consequence
then you'll move when it's your turn
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
leaving you behind
you are crying out
that you need to speak your mind
so alone in love
I'm going to haunt you every day
haunt you every day
haunt you every day
haunt you every day

I agree that is is a breakup song, but the thing is, the guy is so wrapped up in guilt over breaking up with her that he starts to go kinda crazy and convinces himself that she is devestated by the break up which is why he talks about himself in such a manner. He thinks that him being around her is haunting her, and also he starts to get pleasure out of it in his insanity, even though he most likly still has feelings for her...
One of the best songs from Make Believe, second only to Other Way.
Possibly about how he neglected a girl, and now he wants her again but it's not possible, which is why he's haunting her... everyday.
Now, for my feedback: I love that little guitar part after the first "So alone in love" verse of the chorus. Just that part makes this song worth listening to over and over again. And just like most other times, the lyrics are quite profound, but rather "emo" in this song.

Straint from the band:
HAUNT YOU EVERY DAY
Rivers: Rick said, write a song like Billy Joel or Elton John, so…
Brian: But no pressure!
[laughter]
Rivers: So, I didn’t really accomplish that at all, but I did write a song on the piano. So that’s about as close as I could come.
Brian: I think it’s a beautiful chord progression. It’s deceptively simple too. It sounds a little more complex than it is, and it’s great fun to play live - I wish we would’ve tracked it more, and played it - approached it more how we do now. But I think it came across pretty well. But I think - any regrets, I wish we could re-record that song how we do it right now.
Scott: It’s another one of those songs where the less bass notes I play on it, the better it works. I remember switching back and forth from trying to do it on piano, or Rivers playing it on guitar, and then going back and back and back, and it turned out to be just right.
Rivers: It’s the first song I wrote entirely on piano.
I don't think he's talking about himself at all. I think he didn't necessarily love her but was with her and got bored of her ("fire's gonna burn") And he might've even had fun hurting her. She got really hurt and alone in love and she feels like he's haunting her (thinks of him 24/7 etc.) That's all (:
If you know Weezer, and Rivers especially, it is unlikely that he is screwing over a girl and haunting her every day. HE is the one being haunted as always. BUT instead of being direct and obviously painful by saying "YOU are going to haunt ME every day" he reverses the roles. If you change every I to you and You to Me the meaning of the song is apparant.
Rivers tries to get into the mind of the girl who can walk away so coldly without letting him have his say. "Walkin on my own, leaving you behind" (It is actually him being left behind)
But he is also subtly brutal calling her insane... "You were just a toy, I am just insane"
So it's actually the girl walking away as always with weezer. But what a beautiful painful way to twist the song.
I like this song. :)
i don't really like this song...it's okay i guess
great song... Probably the best vocals I have heard from Rivers... EVER. Great job guys.
Perfect song to end the album. What it's about I can't tell for sure, but as it is, BurndtToast sounds correct.
i intrepreted this song to be about the singer, who is probably void of emotion, who leaves his partner for no apparent reason, simply because he is "just insane." no questions asked, the other person can't even "speak their mind", so they are "haunted" everyday by the singer. this is my #2 favorite song on the album...after "freak me out" :)
