Meet Me in Montauk Lyrics

Leave as fast as you came
without a sound
nothing to ruffle your ends
I've been wandering around making up movies
in my head-so we say don't let it go
Let me try and pull out pride
I already forget how I used to feel about you
Leave as fast as you came, no invitation, nowhere to go from hear [spelled incorrectly on purpose?]
I've been wandering around wondering how I got so
Fuckin' boring all the sudden so fuckin' scared... I'm not
you'd mean so much more to me if I remembered.

ok i'm just writing this on a whim because i was thinking about my life and stuff happening to me and finding connections to it and the song, if you this this is weird or irrelevant just disregard this:

to me it's about having a crush on a girl and then falling out of that love

"Leave as fast as you came" - the crush is ending

"without a sound" - when you have a crush that you never told anyone about, or really did anything about, so really no one is affected except you

"nothing to ruffle your ends" - your crush doesn't even know how you feel, and just goes on with her life

"I've been wandering around making up movies in my head" - you dream about how it would be like if you were with her, and almost start living in those fantasies

"so we say don't let it go" "Let me try and pull out pride' "I already forget how I used to feel about you" - you realize your crush isn't who you thought she was

"Leave as fast as you came, no invitation, nowhere to go from hear" "I've been wandering around wondering how I got so" - you're so disoriented because of your crush that its all you can think about and you are just going through the motions in your life

"Fuckin' boring all the sudden so fuckin' scared... I'm not" - your scared about your emotions and how strongly you feel about this girl "you'd mean so much more to me if I remembered"

My Interpretation

This song seems to be about the movie Eternal Sunshine On The Spotless Mind. The main character forgets his love interest and goes back to this boring life. There's also a lot of meaning to Montauk Point in the movie.

eternal sunshine OF the spotless mind. jeez, get it right.

Well obviously it is about Eternal Sunshine. It's a fairly unique plot and it's pretty much Joel's narration through song.

I think this it is:

hey now, overcome your concern about the weather and wether or not im still alive check the vital signs so soft spoken and shy never gets high anymore did you poison my food, forgive me im a paranoid fool

ive been lying wide awake paralyzed by the buzzing of the television these modern things we know, getting you off these modern things we know, getting you off

haunting us, these different meanings and spectral beings. were fighting sleep with broken rust and weaponry sing songs softly and low like you want me to hear stolen what you cant afford ?????? breathing for

ive been lying wide awake paralyzed by the buzzing of the television these modern things we know, getting you off these modern things we know, getting you off

something id never said.... Speak so softly (something that i cant understand) stolen what you cant afford ??????? breathing for something i could never said

(all of the last sounds are mixed)

Lyrics might not be correct so suggest opinions. About the meaning, it sounds to me like boredom, not excited of doing anything, nothing caugh my eyes now....however, this song is one of the best in the entire album.

its stolen what you cant afford. whats that muffle beating for.

that part is actually a different song, called House of Leaves. i know this is a few years late xD

Yah, this song is completely about Eternal Sunshine. I guess the thought was just interesting enough to write a song about. Beautifully done. And I like how the song was rightly named "Meet Me In Montauk," the infamous quote from the movie I will never forget.

words in means i corrected it

we're fighting sleep with broken, rusted weaponry

words that muffle, beating for (at least it sounds like "beating" to me)

as for the mixed part where the guy above couldnt understand its because the singer says "speak so softly" backwards throughout that whole part of the song so it sounds like he is saying something else

yeah, Eternal sunshine is my favorite movie, and these guys must be obsessed with the film too, because not only is this song about the film, but the song title "wish resign" comes from the Alexander Pope said in the film. "How happy is the blameless Vestal's lost! The world forgetting, by the world forgot: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each prayer accepted, and each wish resign'd."

and the line "You mean so much more to me You mean so much more, If I remember" definitely refers to the erasing process in the movie. and so much more.
