Every Day Is Exactly the Same Lyrics

I believe I can see the future
'Cause I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
But then again, that might have been a dream

I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I've been told
I really don't want them to come around, oh no

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I'm happy here
(Sometimes)
Sometimes, yet I still pretend

I can't remember how this got started
Oh, but I can tell you exactly how it will end

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I'm writing on a little piece of paper
I'm hoping someday you might find
I'll hide it behind something
They won't look behind

I am still inside here
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could've been any other way
But I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same (every day is the same)

Okay don't everybody freak out at me but this song reminds me of the end of "1984", you know that great book by George Orwell, where finally O'Brien has broken Winston Smith, the main character, and he has renounced everything he used to believe . . . I'm not saying that the song is based on the book, I'm just saying that it reminds me of the book. Especially the part that goes, "I think I used to have a purpose . . ." and "Sometimes I feel their eyes watching, in case I lose myself again . . ." (Remember, Big Brother is WATCHING you!)

If you listen very closely to the song you can hear that the lyrics could be "there is no laws here, there is no pain" Which makes sense in you analyse the lyrics from the George Orwell 1984 perspective. Because it is said in the book that the society that Winston is living in has no real laws.

@thatredhotsong ... 'Winston's writing on a little piece of paper. He's hoping someday Julia might find. He'll hide it behind something he hopes they won't look behind.'~ Winston ♡ Julia April 4th, 1984

Guys dont be fool, the title speaks for itself. Its not about psycotic, or rehab, or whatever BS you might think other than he is talking about plain ol' life. The routine a normal person would have. when he says "I believe I can see the future, Cause I repeat the same routine" Is that he knows that 2morrow (which is already the future) will be the same as the day he is living through. You wake up, brush your teeth, have breakfast, turn your car on, (some cases, take children to school), go to your daily shift work for 8 hrs. 12hrs etc. during the day you have brunch, lunch, punchout, punch in,finish work, head home, have dinner, watch some tv, go to sleep. next day, guess what???????? same shit different daY. AGAIN You wake up, brush your teeth, have breakfast, turn your car on, (some cases, take children to school), go to your daily shift work for 8 hrs. 12hrs etc. during the day you have brunch, lunch, punchout, punch in,finish work, head home, have dinner, watch some tv, go to sleep. next day, guess what???????? REALLY?????? You wake up, brush your teeth, have breakfast, turn your car on, (some cases, take children to school), go to your daily shift work for 8 hrs. 12hrs etc. during the day you have brunch, lunch, punchout, punch in,finish work, head home, have dinner, watch some tv, go to sleep. next day, guess what???????? "I think I used to have a purpose Then again, that might have been a dream" THIS MEANS HE HAD GOALS AND WISHED FOR SOMETHING BETTER BUT HE DOESNT HAVE OR NEVER ACCOMPLISHED.

"I think I used to have a voice And now I never make a sound" This means he use to have an opinion and spoke it. People or socity would hear his voice, he had a meaning and now he's shut up because he's depressed because he realizes the routine. "I just do what I've been told" this could mean his job. hes no supervisor or CEO of a company, just a regular employee. "I really don't want them to come around", oh no He preffers to avoid his bosses.

Every day is exactly the same Every day is exactly the same "There is no love here, and there is no pain" he has no relationship to look foward to so he has no love that comes with pain. Every day is exactly the same

"I can feel their eyes are watching" Society or someone who cares for him is watching over him. "In case I lose myself again" This could mean, Drugs, Bad habits, Drop out, bum, laizyness. "Sometimes I think I'm happy here" He's happy, cause he is in his comfort zone. He thinks he is happy. "Sometimes, yeah, I still pretend" He is not happy at all refering to the previous verse. He s tired of the routine but has to cope with it so he is pretending when hes outside in the real world in society.

"I can't remember how this got started" He doesnt know how, or when this routine started. "Oh, but I can tell you exactly how it will end" He has an idea how he can finish the routine. could be a judgement call, suicide, or since he can see the future daily routine. it may refer to the end of the day.

"I'm writing on a little piece of paper I'm hoping someday you will find Well, I'll hide it behind something They won't look behind" It speaks for itself a metaphor of his emotions hidding it in his heart.

"I am still inside here" His soul, himself, he feels trapped in the routine. has not change. "A little bit comes bleeding through" When you bleed it hurts so he's refering to pain, again he mentions no pain in he's life but....... still it says a little not a whole lot so he does have emotions. Human being with emotions. "I wish this could have any other way" He wishes his life woul've been different. "Oh, but I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do" he's blocked, he doesnt know what actions to take to change he's routine in life.

This song is about routinary life. Of course not every day is excactly the same. But the little things whe do without putting our minds to it is a routine life. Again..... whats the story of your life??? " You wake up, brush your teeth, have breakfast, turn your car on, (some cases, take children to school), go to your daily shift work for 8 hrs. 12hrs etc. during the day you have brunch, lunch, punchout, punch in,finish work, head home, have dinner, watch some tv, go to sleep. next day, guess what???????? same shit different daY.

@johanrsx I agree with everything except one. When he says "I can tell you exactly how it will end" he's further reinforcing the message that "every day is exactly the same". He predicts that it will end with him feeling purposeless, unfulfilled and unloved...like very other day. Not suicide. He's saying that because every day is exactly the same, he believes he can see the future and that the day he dies, things would still be the same. That feelings of purposelessness, unfulfillment and a lack of love that he lived with, he's going to die with....

it's actualy also to do with anti depressants, he says how he has to follow this routine of anti depressants to stop the pain from coming around "i really dont want them to come around" and that how dull and boring life is with anti depressants

That's an interesting take on the song.

I believe the song is about someone depressed and fucking board. I mean come on look at most of us, the average joe just going about life as everyday.

Wake up Eat Work (get pissed of at your boss) Long drive home Eat Sleep

Its a boring lifestyle routine is efficient and helpful but boring and repitive.

Personally,I can relate the song to people with bipolar and their experience. I'm one of them.

In the first verse, I can see how purposeless and useless my life is. "I think I used to have a purpose but then again,it might have been a dream".

"Sometimes I think I'm happy but sometimes not" relates to the intense mood swings I have. At times,I'm so happy it feels like I'm high. And sometimes, depression kills me.

"I can tell you exactly how it will end" and "I'll write it on a lil piece of paper I'm hoping you might find" explains how I feel like taking my life. I know it's going to happen and that how it ends.

Finally, "everyday is exactly the same" - it says I go through this same bullshit day after day. It's maddening.

Well, that's what I feel about this song. It's one of my favourites. It's featured in the movie,"the wanted"- James mcavoy and Angelina Jolie. In the movie,McAvoy actually has violent panic attacks and depressive states which is similar to bipolar. Both the song and the movie means a lot to me.

My Interpretation

@Sheen I'm bipolar too. It's a bitch. You have to learn to recognize when you might be manic. People don't realize that bipolar disorder influences EVERY mood. Anger, happiness, sadness, etc... They don't realize that bipolar disorder can make you overly happy or optimistic. My neighbor has learned to detect when I'm manic. She'll literally say "Christian, I think you might be manic right, so try not to make any rash decisions based on your emotions."

I feel like this song is about the narrator being depressed and in a cycle of sadness.

"I think I used to have a purpose But then again, that might have been a dream" He once felt great and then fell into a state of sadness and feels without a purpose.

"I think I used to have a voice Now I never make a sound I just do what I've been told" I think here he feels like no one listens to him or his opinion so he just stopped talking about things overall and follows orders.

"I can feel their eyes are watching In case I lose myself again" He feels like everyone watches him and his mistakes or maybe some kind of mental breakdown.

"Sometimes I think I'm happy here (Sometimes) Sometimes, yet I still pretend" He sometimes feels okay and worth something but it goes away often.

"I can't remember how this got started Oh, but I can tell you exactly how it will end" Pretty simple he doesn't remember why he's sad but he knows how it will end, him killing himself.

This next parts i'm really not positive about...

"I'll write it on a little piece of paper I'm hoping, someday, you might find Well I'll hide it behind something They won't look behind" Obviously a suicide note but who is he giving it to? I think he believes someone cares about him still and maybe only they understand which is why they'd know where to look.

"I am still inside her A little bit comes bleeding through I wish this could've been any other way But I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do" He feels if he kills himself he will always be inside this girls mind, he doesn't want to kill himself for her but that is his only option.

So overall he just feels worthless and living a repetitive life so he plans on killing himself. Possibly has someone in his life who cares about him but he just can't continue living.

An improvement over THTF indeed. This song fits nicely with the album theme, unlike THTF. I also love the dark sounds in this song, they may very well be used in a soundtrack over the next few years. This is probably my 3rd favorite on the album, behind Right Where It Belongs and All the Love in the World.

And Phooky, Fluid probably didn\'t mean to post that many times. It\'s kind of a glitch. It has happened to me before.

Like Wanted? Haha. I agree with your favorites though.

I had a meaning all set up, then I read the comment about anti-depressents and it fits much better. Since pills dull who the person really is and makes them monotonous zombies.

I had the thought at one point while listening that it's from the point of view of a psychiatric patient who plans to kill himself, but it seems like the anti-depressants idea would connect with more people out living it up in society.
