Nine Inch Nails – Love Is Not Enough Lyrics 18 years ago
Sounds like a sequel of sorts to "We're In This Together Now" to me.

Let me first say that I really love this song, it might even be my favorite from With Teeth. But let me also say that, thanks to my own twisted imagination, I always have to laugh when I hear the opening to it. It makes me picture a Napoleon Dynamite-ish nerd (complete with fuzzy wristbands and a frizzy white-kid fro) jamming at his yard-sale Casio keyboard in his parents' basement, yelling at Trent Reznor, whom he has imprisoned in the basement-- "Gosh, Trent Reznor, you have to sing it LOUDER. Idiot!"

Nine Inch Nails – Happiness in Slavery Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this whole EP is one of the greatest albums ever. I know somebody who has the VHS of the videos from "Broken". Watching it is kind of like driving by a really bad car wreck-- you know you shouldn't look, but there's that little part of you that really really wants to see somebody all broken up and bloody. As for the "snuff film"-- it looked pretty real to me.

This album reminds me a lot of "Pretty Hate Machine", but I'm not sure why.

Nine Inch Nails – Every Day Is Exactly the Same Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay don't everybody freak out at me but this song reminds me of the end of "1984", you know that great book by George Orwell, where finally O'Brien has broken Winston Smith, the main character, and he has renounced everything he used to believe . . . I'm not saying that the song is based on the book, I'm just saying that it reminds me of the book. Especially the part that goes, "I think I used to have a purpose . . ." and "Sometimes I feel their eyes watching, in case I lose myself again . . ." (Remember, Big Brother is WATCHING you!)

Nine Inch Nails – Only Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is so great-- it has gotten me through some tough days at work-- one of our managers always makes me think of this song-- "there is no you, there is only ME" only in this context, meaning "I am the only one who matters."

A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics 19 years ago
Does anyone else think it's significant that "Mer de Noms" contains not only a song named "Magdalena" but also songs named "Rose" and "Sleeping Beauty"? First of all, "Magdalena" clearly references the concepts of the sacred feminine and goddess worship. Now I may only be a crack "DaVinci Code"-type researcher, but one of the reasons that the Church "prostituted" M.M.'s reputation was that they wanted to quash the ideas of sacred feminity and goddess worship-- the Church is one of the most blatantly patriarchal organizations known to, uh, man-kind. Secondly, you have "Rose" right after "Magdalena"-- many Grail-seekers referred to M.M as the "Rose". Then, a few songs later, the title "Sleeping Beauty" pops up. Well as many of you doubtless know, "Sleeping Beauty" was filled with references to the princess (code named Briar "Rose", oddly enough-- go figure) HIDDEN safely away for years by her PROTECTORS (anyone who's not following this should definitely read "The DaVinci Code", even though I was unaware that there was anyone left on earth who hasn't read it) Hm, see any parallels? And all of this on a CD that contains many other references to the bible-- "Judith" and "Thomas" for example. AND-- AND there's the fact that A Perfect Circle is considered by some people to be the "feminine" counterpart to MJK's other band, Tool. Hm, is anyone seeing a connection here? Maybe the band's messing with our heads a little.

Green Day – Homecoming Lyrics 19 years ago
does anyone else think that "east 12th street" could possibly be rehab? maybe the story arc of the second half is how after whatsername breaks up with jesus/st. jimmy, he goes into depression and then realizes that it is the wrong path (drugs, rebellion, etc) or maybe just gets tired of it, hence st. jimmy's "suicide" aka the death of his drug use in "death of st jimmy" and going into rehab (east 12th street) and finally dealing with stuff. idon't know that is just my take on it

Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics 19 years ago
who cares if modest mouse is a "sellout" or not? all I know is that if they hadn't "gone mainstream", people like me who live in the vast musical wasteland of middle America would have never heard them, and their music has added so much happiness to my life that it would be a shame if I had never heard of them .

Modest Mouse – This Devil's Workday Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is one of those fuck-you-I-don't-need-anyone-else-and-you-can-all-go-fuck-yourselves songs. It's like a tantrum set to music. Great and I love it.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 19 years ago
probably i will get ripped up and down for this and also just crucified but i'm going to say it anyway-- I really don't think this song is too different than "californication". There, I've said it. Laugh if you must, but I'm sticking with it.

Audioslave – Getaway Car Lyrics 19 years ago
i will never forget walking through the rain and listening to this song on my mp3 player . . . sounds like a really corny scene from a shitty movie but it really was a moment from my life. a great song for rainy days.

Incubus – Here In My Room Lyrics 19 years ago
this is just my own opinion . . . I think this song is a really cynical look at love & sex & relationships. Especially the last line-- "So thank you for being 'that kind of girl'. . ." It just sounds really cynical and jaded to me.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Greeting Song Lyrics 19 years ago
i really like this song, it's one of my favorites on bssm. ironically, i read in ak's autobiography that it's like his least favorite song. he just wrote it for rick rubin because rick said he liked songs about girls and cars. but anthony said he "never really found my place in the song". okay, it scares me a little that i know that. have to go reevaluate my place in life-- j/k

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Rolling Sly Stone Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is great, and that it shows them getting back to their roots a little, cuz it seems to me like it's just a little funky, especially the bassline. i can't believe that there aren't more comments on this one, but maybe that's because it's on the live album that wasn't released everywhere. anyway, i think it's about being on tour all the time. not that it matters what it means, because it kicks ass.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Give It Away Lyrics 19 years ago
have to agree w/ one who walks. I just read AK's autobiography. The song is about this woman Nina (the singer for whom What It Is was written). Story goes that Anthony was admiring a leather jacket of hers and she was like, "take it, it's yours" and she explained that that was her philosophy, that the more you give away, the more you get back. so it's all about this idea of giving to get.
