In case you were wondering SKEKSIS are the dark race from Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal. By the end of the movie as the planets are aligned the Dark Crystal is repaired and the evil Skeksis and peaceful Mystics are reunited to their former selves -- the Urskeks. And there is once again balance to the universe.

its probobly just me... but this song pretty much sums up my a lot of my experiences during bad trips... but that i mean TRIPPING ON HALLUCINOGENIC DRUGS... i enjoy my bad trips and find them to be the most inciteful... but to those who have tripped and to those that have had a bad trip... keep it in mind while listening to this song and reading the lyrics and see if you get where im coming from... im sure someone will.

if you think about it. the formula presented in this song equals:

metal. the music that 'controls' an awkward sole and 'draws' people into it.

colour, relating to the numbers (mathimatical equations of music), thus relates to SOUND, sound made with influence of WAR and SEX, to create a FORM, which aplied to HEARING creates ALL GOD VIBRATION.

the complexity of strapping in itself, is 'a multiverse in just one thing'.

the skeksis reference is linked to the obvious sarcasm through imitation of people devin dislikes.

this is where strappings comedy comes in. the skeksis are evil and misunderstanding fools, cretins, short haired and frail, and they're into math and science.

the uhru (the good side) are good, peacefull, singing, long heared, instroment playing dudes that draw symbols everywhere...metalheads?

I found the above explanation to be pretty interesting, but perhaps a stretch..I don't know though. Devin can write some crazy songs.

Seriously, to me this sounds like a glimpse into the writing process of one of Dev's songs. Seems like he's trying to explain the lyrical tools he uses, while also explaining that he has to fight for every word. I also hear a couple of references to his bi-polar disorder, and how hard it can be for him to write but at the same time keeping an eye on his own health.

The whole album makes a slightly forced impression from lyrics to its story of creation. The lyrics especially look like automatic writing. At least there's is still some great musicianship and Shine can easily be counted among the band's classic songs.

"I control an awkward soul And my lines Are automatic, automatically drawn"

Here, I think of what it's like to be a child. Growing up, your 'lines' (morals/truths) are 'automatically drawn' (chosen for you).

This also reminds me of the early stages of learning; discovering new things and trying to understand how the world works and interacts with itself.

Also the Skeksis are the alien (oooh!) creatures in "The Dark Crystal." Their obsession is to prolong their lifespan, like the lyric "I'D LIKE TO THINK FOREVER... I WOULD NOT QUESTION WHY"

So, in all, I think this song has a 'HOLY SHIT WHAT IS LIFE' sort of vibe. He doesn't know the answers, he just was thrown into the world without explanation. However, by the end, perhaps he realizes he can take on his own meaning, by the lyrics: "...OOO I control an awkward soul... In my time... And then I'm automatic, automatically GOD"

actually this song is a big maths equasion that nobody could solve for years upon years. then it got solved lol. he said this in terrorizer magazine when the album came out. the song info dump has something to do with the equasion too. i.e. the morse code
