No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley cover) Lyrics
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
Cause I remember when we used to sit
In a government yard in Trenchtown
Observing the hypocrites
Mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have, Oh, good friends we have lost
Along the way
In this great future,
You can't forget your past
So dry your tears, I seh No woman no cry
No woman no cry
Little darling, don't shed no tears
No woman no cry Said I remember when we use to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire lights
I seh, log would burnin' through the nights
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge
Of which i'll share with you
My feet is my only carriage
And so i've got to push on thru,
Oh, while i'm gone
Everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright No woman no cry
No woman no cry
I seh little darlin'
Don't shed no tears
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
Cause I remember when we used to sit
In a government yard in Trenchtown
Observing the hypocrites
Mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have, Oh, good friends we have lost

I love this cover! IT is my personal favourite version of this song. not a big fan of the original but love this one!! Whoo GO XAVIER!! Just got his latest cd too!! very awesome i must say =D
i like bob marley's version a lot more
I find this a refreshing cover because it is very unique compared to the original. To me a differnt sound entirely that manges to remain true enough to Bob's to show tribute but unique enough to exhibit Xavier's flow, soul, and own talent.
Yes I would say this is a great cover, 2 different genres Bob and Xavier, but they both contain strong messages particulary about not being a hippocrite. lol
for me.. i think personally Marley is referring to himself, in this context whereby he is saying to himself, no dont be a woman - by not crying, and move on. so 'dry your tears i say' is like saying move on.. dont be a woman.. hmm yeah
The original line of the song is "No, Woman, Nuh cry." Nuh is Jamacian English for "don't." I think it's about overcoming the adversity of the ghetto... He's leaving and reassures her that everything will be alright.

This is a quote from Aston "Family Man" Barrett, bass player of the Wailers: "The song is about the strength in the mama of course, strength in the ladies. And we love a woman with a backbone. Something like a wishbone! They have to be like a she lion! Woman strong, you know, not depending on the man. Of...

Of course the man is there to help you, then for every successful man, there is a good woman."
