Soldier In A Box Lyrics
I found a soldier in a box
A souvenir that someone lost at such a cost
The cemetery gates were closed
Only the humming birds would smell the flowers brought for ghosts
There's not much fame or fortune
For the fortuneteller selling fortunes to the broke
Soldier in a box
He's mighty lonely
Soldier in a box
He's nothing special
He's serenading himself cuz nobody's there
He's celebrating himself cuz nobody cares
He's serenading himself
"No need to say this letter better get to where he lays his head!" she said
Seventeen months of wondering why she forgot to send her thoughts was all he got instead
A souvenir that someone lost at such a cost
The cemetery gates were closed
Only the humming birds would smell the flowers brought for ghosts
There's not much fame or fortune
For the fortuneteller selling fortunes to the broke
He's mighty lonely
Soldier in a box
He's nothing special
He's celebrating himself cuz nobody cares
He's serenading himself
Seventeen months of wondering why she forgot to send her thoughts was all he got instead

I think that it is about a soldier that goes to war and he never gets letters from his girl back home, and he dies at work in war, which is why he is in a box, a casket box. It also might be some other things, but I like that translation as I can relate to it.
Great song....tricky lyrics. I think it's about someone who is really lonely and used to have somebody but now has nobody and he wonders why that person never bothered to call or write. Nothing that he does gets noticed by any one. Just a guess...
Its about a dead solider. "He seranades himself cause nobody cares." You know as much as people say 'support the troops' sometimes they get to be like another cog in the war machine.
The end is kinda, well, technically its pathetic but not in the way it means loser. The last verse is some soliders girlfriend/wife/lover saying that she is writting him and telling these guys it better damn well get to him and for seventeen months he never gets any of her letters.
Makes sense for someone who is so lonely that they have to turn to themself (is that a word?) for comfort and praise. Even though it sounds kind of stupid, for a person like that, it may be the only attention they get. Could also be about forgotten soldiers, it sounds like it.
