Last night I dreamt
While I was walking that I died looking up
At fancy buildings and skyscrapers
Are real heart breakers
When your time has come and gone
It could of been all yours for a song

Of all the things I ever wanted
It was you
And love and freedom
But I was a girl haunted
In the blue, undaunted

Just swimming for the shore
Wondering what the hurt is for

But tonight I know why I'm here
I don't need to lose you to know
That it's already golden

Tonight I know in my heart
I don't need to die just to see
That it's already golden
That it's already golden

So take the purple
And take the black
And take all the colors of heartache back
And throw them in the sea
And say you love me
Keep the silver, keep the gold
Stay wand watch the world get old

'Cause tonight I know why I'm here
I don't need to lose you to know
That It's already golden

Tonight I know in my heart
I don't need to die just to see
That it's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden

This song is about 2 people who long for the warmth and security that love brings but is afraid of letting themselves be vunerable. She has loved once before and opened her heart but was mistreated and left damaged by all the hurt that was caused to her. She is still left confused and wondering why she deserved such immense pain and torture. She meets and falls in love with "the one" but he is not showing his love for her. He has also been damaged by his past hurt, is shut down. As a result she feels blue and haunted by her insecurities and fears rejection and being hurt all over. She doesn't feel safe and secure. Her new man not showing his love, tries to compensate with posessions but she is not materialistic. She is about what is real. She needs to feel loved in words and actions not in possessions. So take the purple And take the black And take all the colors of heartache back And throw them in the sea And say you love me Keep the silver, keep the gold Stay and watch the world get old But tonight I know why I'm here I don't need to lose you to know That it's already golden She realises that she does not need to lose her man to know what she already has. She has gold in her new love, that they are soul mates (even though he is not aware of this fact just yet) and is asking him to let go of his past hurt and pain and show is love for her and to trust her with his heart.
