I'm walkin to the other side
with the devil tryin to take my mind
and my soul's just a silhouette
in the ashes of a cigarette
illusions never fake their lies
trick cards fool the eye
carry zeros over till they add up
bury tears in the chapters you shut
sometimes the jail can't chain the cell
and the rain's too plain to tell
all alone by a barren well
the scarecrow's only scarin himself
I've been diggin the ground
thru the dust and the clouds
I see miles and miles
and the junkyard piles
I wanted hope from a grave
I wanted strength from a slave
what gives you comfort now
might be the end of you then
crows are pullin at my clothes
the wind got my fingers froze
standing all day keepin watch
over all the treasures we lost
sometimes the jail can't chain the cell
and the rain's too plain to tell
all alone by a barren well
the scarecrow's only scarin himself
with the devil tryin to take my mind
and my soul's just a silhouette
in the ashes of a cigarette
trick cards fool the eye
carry zeros over till they add up
bury tears in the chapters you shut
and the rain's too plain to tell
all alone by a barren well
the scarecrow's only scarin himself
thru the dust and the clouds
I see miles and miles
and the junkyard piles
I wanted hope from a grave
I wanted strength from a slave
what gives you comfort now
might be the end of you then
the wind got my fingers froze
standing all day keepin watch
over all the treasures we lost
and the rain's too plain to tell
all alone by a barren well
the scarecrow's only scarin himself

the el-p remix of this on guerolito is amazing
'sarry zeros over till they add up' is my favourite lyric. This is somewhat different to all the other songs he has had featured on TV shows.
"the scarecrow's only scarin himself"
exactly beck, exactly
Awesome song.
I've been told I only scare myself on multiple occasions, by the way.
And also, am I the only one that thinks the vocals in this song sound like Jim Morrison of the Doors?
@Bigs I think more Jim Morrison of the Led Zeppelin’s

Vaguely, yes. So no, bigs.
what gives you comfort now might be the end of you then
that is one of my favorite lyrics next to "scarecow's only scarin' himself"
I DO hear that the vocals sound a touch like Jim Morrison.
I also think the music has a bit of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" in it.
Lovely song to drive to. Now, if only I was driving in the red 1956 Buick I fell in love with...
Ditto about the Billie Jean vibe. I think it's the drum rhythms. The song's got soul.
