Cowboy Bob Lyrics
I woke up this morning
On the wrong side of bed
I had a knife in my back
And I put it back in
Oh my God I was dead
I hope I get to sleep tonight
I never can
I've always got a knife in my back
No matter where, no matter when
On the wrong side of bed
I had a knife in my back
And I put it back in
Oh my God I was dead
I hope I get to sleep tonight
I never can
I've always got a knife in my back
No matter where, no matter when

this song is about a roadie (i think, if i remember right) from another ealy 80's indie band that was killed by a axe murderer. It's the BHS's way of a tribute to him.
im pretty sure instead of "i put it back in, oh my god i was dead" its "and im fighting with you, oh my god i was scared"
I think it's about some sort of pain that will not go away, like a sense of betrayal. He got burned last night an woke up with it. Instead of moving on, he puts it back in, choosing to linger on the pain he's experienced, not realizing that he is the reason for his pain and wishing it would go away.
@WhiskeytimeCowboy I like this interpretation, that's actually useful advice!
