(March 19th 1983) It Was Probably Green Lyrics
green takes the leaves
snow takes the sea
it reminded me how awful things can be
trying to recall your tiny voice
till the fever breaks it's all that I can hear
counting down the numbers of the days
was it the same amount of roses on your grave
finally I brought myself to sing these words
after the snow you can finally see
if you could be the trees I would be your leaves
after she died, we decided to believe
that her favorite color was probably green
on the day she died, in our hearts we did believe
that her favorite color was probably green
snow takes the sea
it reminded me how awful things can be
trying to recall your tiny voice
till the fever breaks it's all that I can hear
counting down the numbers of the days
was it the same amount of roses on your grave
finally I brought myself to sing these words
after the snow you can finally see
if you could be the trees I would be your leaves
after she died, we decided to believe
that her favorite color was probably green
on the day she died, in our hearts we did believe
that her favorite color was probably green

this is my new favorite carissa's wierd song. just beautiful and sad, obviously about the death of someone loved. perhaps it was a child, but for some reason i always imagined it to be about his mother. it makes more sense for it to be a child, since he says "tiny voice," but whatever.
@sortilegus i've always thought of it as a death of some close friend, but yeah, makes sense

I would definitely consider this to be a song about a small child, because he says her favourite colour was 'probably green', because they didn't have a chance to connect with her as she died so young. It is such a brilliant representation of this sort of scenario that I wouldn't be surprised if one of the band members had gone through this in one way or another.
Reading through the song meanings of several songmeanings no one seems to notice the suicide motif throughout the album. I've always had the understanding that the whole album was leading up to her eventual suicide and here on March 19th 1983 is the day she actually did it.
"Her favorite color was probably green" no one really cared enough to know her favorite color while she was alive. So sad.
So much sadness.
