This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
Far away, I can feel your beating heart
All alone, beneath the crystal stars
Staring into space, what a lonely face
I'll try to find my place with you
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love
Larger than the moon, my love for you
Worlds collide, as heaven pulls us through
The secret of the world is written in the stars
I'm carrying your heart in mine
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love
Maybe a greater thing will happen
Maybe all will see
Maybe our love will catch like fire
As it burns through me
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love
All alone, beneath the crystal stars
Staring into space, what a lonely face
I'll try to find my place with you
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love
Larger than the moon, my love for you
Worlds collide, as heaven pulls us through
The secret of the world is written in the stars
I'm carrying your heart in mine
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love
Maybe a greater thing will happen
Maybe all will see
Maybe our love will catch like fire
As it burns through me
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We'll make everything right
My beautiful love

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Great song, pretty self explanatory. It's a better-than-average love song though, wonder if the CD is any good...
This is the first track on the album. The rest of the cd is strictly Christian Rock. However, they are the most pop/alternative CRock band i've heard. The cd is definitely worthy of a look.
This is such an amazing song...it has this sweeping feeling to it that makes you want to run away at midnight and find your true love. Simple but beautiful words, brilliant music...lovely song.
I LOVE THIS SONG. they are so good live! the cd is definatly worth listening to!
Good song, to me it's about a guy singin' to his girl...or about one.
agrees with acid_reverie
8th & ocean!! i love this song, its so catchy, slightly cheesy--but really good!
Josh Havens, the lead singer of The Afters, wrote this song when his wife was in Mexico on a humanitarian-aid trip. Here is a quote from Josh from theafters.com/ regarding Beautiful Love: "Shortly after we got married, she left to help build houses for people who were living in shanties. I was back in Dallas strumming on a guitar thinking about how people say 'love can change the world.' It's usually a cliché, but my wife was living out that ideal. That night I wrote 'Beautiful Love' for her and all the magical things that can come from love."
"I'll try to find my place with you"
That's amazing...and true
i love it.
