Trampled Rose Lyrics
Long way going to
Get my medicine
Sky's the autumn grey of a lonely wren
Piano from a window played
Gone tomorrow, gone yesterday
I found it in the street
At first I did not see
Lying at my feet
A trampled rose
Passing the hat in church
It never stops going around
You never pay just once
To get the job done
What I done to me,
I done to you
So what happened to the trampled rose?
In the muddy street
With the fireworks and leaves
A blind man with a cup I asked
Would he sing 'Kisses Sweeter Than Wine'
I know this rose,
Like I know my name
The one I gave my love,
It was the same
Now I find it in the street,
A trampled rose
Get my medicine
Sky's the autumn grey of a lonely wren
Gone tomorrow, gone yesterday
At first I did not see
Lying at my feet
A trampled rose
It never stops going around
To get the job done
I done to you
So what happened to the trampled rose?
With the fireworks and leaves
Would he sing 'Kisses Sweeter Than Wine'
Like I know my name
The one I gave my love,
It was the same
Now I find it in the street,
A trampled rose

Yeah nice vocal, covered recently well in a spooky vocal by Alison Krauss on the duet album (with Robert Plant) "Raising Sand". E-mail me (check profile) if you want a copy of Krauss' version.
Somehow I didn't even realize they were the same song (possibly from the distinct voice difference) but as soon as I read this it clicked. Very cool take on the song. Almost haunting.

I love his vocal on this.
This song is perfect. "Long way going to get my medicine" is the perfect lead in, and when you consider the epiphany of the trampled rose...
