Captain Walker
Didn't come home.
His unborn child
Will never know him.
Believe him missing
With a number of men.
Don't expect
To see him again.
Didn't come home.
His unborn child
Will never know him.
Believe him missing
With a number of men.
Don't expect
To see him again.

i love the horn in the "go to the doctor" section.
great how he followed the traditional overture style for a contemporary rock album.
I don't even consider the words listed to be part of the Overture, but that's neither here nor there. What is stunning about the Overture is that Pete Townsend wrote extremely powerful songs with no lyrics, this being one of them. Yes, the members of the group were a bunch of snotty little rockers, but there was musical genius there. Other incredible pieces - "Quadrophenia" and "The Rock" on the Quadrophenia album. If those works don't elicit emotion in you, you don't have the volume turned up enough. And Townsend wrote "Tommy" when he was 23 and "Quadrophenia" when he was 28. This man is the Mozart of the 20th century.
musically, the greatest song the who ever recorded perfect opening for Tommy
Amazingly detailed song. Perfect intro. So many elements of sound in it. Lyrics are sung beautifuly.
This whole album seems to me (I'm hearing it for the first time now, but I've read about it) to be the same as Pink Floyd's The Wall, except that this one came first.
The best instrumental Rock piece i've ever heard by anyone.
Well as it has lyrics I guess it's not an instrumental is it?
I love the way this song goes into 'It's A Boy'.
