It is about how George Strait and Alan Jackson feel about the state of country music today. Too much emphasis on rock and pop crossover for money and fame. They also mention the true statement. Hank Williams/Merle Haggard etc. would never get played in today's country market.

This song Murder on Music Row is exactly what is needed. Both George Strait and Alan Jackson should be commended and honored to play a song like this because too much Country these days is going the Crossover Billboard Top 40 Pop direction and that is a damn shame and a travesty! George and Alan clearly love Country for what it can, might and will always be. They clearly don't want to see that aspect of American Life-apologies so songbird Madonna-go the way of the Ford Model T and the 57 Chevy. As for that last part of the song, would Keith Whitley, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash have a fighting chance on Country Radio today? i think not. What passes for Country these days-Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Josh Thompson sure ain't Country to me at all! This music is absolutely terrible but it sure ain't Country, much less let alone Rock! Thanks King George and Prince Alan for letting me know what Country is really about and can be still! Country Forever-I will always remember and never forget it!
They could also be singing about the bro country music trend that has affected every male country music artist and band. It seems like even the older male artists such as Joe Diffie and Tim McGraw seem to be jumping on that bandwagon. Hank, Merle, and others are rolling in their graves.
