As Far As I Know Lyrics

I'm in love with someone that doesn't exist
Keep looking for them everywhere I go
I'm in love with something that doesn't get kissed
It doesn't exist
As far as I know

I'm in love with a face that I've never seen
Once upon a place long time ago
I'm in love with a time that never took place
That's easy to trace
As far as I know
And I know everything that I need to sing
I know everything

I'm in love with the sound that I never hear
As long as I watch your TV show
I'm in love with that girl that doesn't resist
That doesn't exist
As far as I know

As far as I know, the stars in the sky are dull
As far as I know, compared to your eyes only
As far as I know

I know everything I need to sing
I know everything
I raise a gun, that won't hurt me none
I'm in love with a dream I had as a kid
I wait up the street until you show
That dream it came true, but you never do
No you never did
As far as I know

This song to me portrayed a very happy sound at first, until I found the lyrics.

"As far as I know, the stars in the sky are dull As far as I know, compared to your eyes only " I used to think that insert was- "As far as I know, the stars in the sky are toes As far as I know, that you're rhizome." Rhizome being a plant/root, but I guess that I stand corrected. Is he talking about a TV Star? Or a father? Or a lover? Or what? It's confusing, yet I connect to it 100%. I'm in love with something that doesn't exist. It's as simple as that folks!

Thank you for not telling me about how really this song is about rape or war in Iraq.

I just found this song... What a great tune, Paul could really write some catchy shit. I've been cranking this up in my wrangler as I fly down the road.

To me, this song is about how the narrator has created an image of the perfect girl in his head. The way I hear this song, it sounds like he builds his dream of the perfect girl through watching TV, and imagining the encounters he would have with this person. In the last part he says the dream he had as a kid came true, which to me refers to him growing up into the person he wanted to be; but the dream he has of the perfect person never came true. As far as he knows, that is.

I really love this song. Possibly the best pseudo love song I've ever heard.
