To me this song is about the flimsiness of a relationship where one of the lovers is overwhelmed by her feelings while the other comes and goes on a whim.
For me, this song is about letting go. About someone who would mean so much, yet it does not work as one would want it to.
I love the way feelings are depicted in the song ("Tremble with a sigh").
Also, the concept of the title can be related to the marks this affair leaves; amidst a perfect blue sky, there's this vapour trail that makes it perfectly unperfect.
For me, this song is about loss. Reminds me of a blue streak. Blue meaning sadness, depression, etc. Also it brings to mind a scene from Girl, Interrupted.
To me, it encompasses a feeling of resignation over something you cannot change, but desperately wish to. Reminds me of situations where you only see a person for a brief period of time every so often, and when you do, you have all these things inside you want to say or do... and you wind up doing nothing because of fear, lack of time, timing being wrong, etc.
It's a beautiful cover, her voice perfectly suited to it. I think the vapour trail bit itself refers to the fact their relationship is so prominent in her life(a white trail stark against the blue sky), and then so quickly, it seems, fades away(as vapour trails do).
