The Great Golden Baby Lyrics
Make your move
Obvious humor
Desperate and respiratory plight
Always on
Dressed to impress
I’ll be the last one to find out why
[Chorus]:
Time takes its toll on us
This changes everything
I’d be a liar if I denied you at all
Oh, now that I know
This changes everything
I’ve been trading ideas with intriguing men, and I
I percieve an honest solution
To all of your pride
Time takes its toll on us
This changes everything
I’d be a liar if I denied you at all
Oh, now that I know
This changes everything
Oh, now that I know
Oh, now that I know
And the amplifier screams out loud for the last time
Wave your hands at the audience as you sink on in
First chance to hide you need desperately so, find me so (so)
Motion gives up on you in the end
I’ll try my best to be home by then
You’ll see the grace we had
She’ll never have
You’ll never have
I’m going home by my own way
I’m going home by my own
I’m going home by my own way
I’m going home by my own

My friend has actually had a chance to meet Anthony in person, he asked him why he left Saosin, he replied: It was like having great sex with a woman you don't love.
this song makes reference to the painting "echo of a scream" which depicts a great golden baby sitting and screaming, clad in red, the amidst rubble and debris created by the progression of industry. the representation of a generation aborted and disregarded by its predecessors is mirrored in the lines "time takes its toll on us, this changes everything" also the intro lyrics provide a description of the baby in the painting "desperate and respiratory plight" (screaming) "always on, dressed to impress" (brilliant red cloth"
this is just an idea, I think this song is about a guy who likes a girl, but realizes she has a boyfriend, and that "changes everything", now he knows he will only be happy if she breaks up with him.
this lyrics are incorrect; i'll post the correct lyrics later, maybe... well about the meanings, i have no idea what it is about.Circa survive is amazing.

yea they are amazing. the song is about anthony leaving saosin to go to his old friends to make cool music....they're the intriguing men he's been trading ideas with. the great golden baby is circa survive. pride (the honest solution) is why he left saosin. pride for the music he likes to make with his old friends in philly
i love this song. anthony has the most amazing voice.
this song is amazing. however to me i has one flaw. it doesn't have the "remove from home" part that juturna has. i don't like how it goes from relatively calm straight to "the amplifier screams out loud." i like'd that little transitional part between. all that aside, it still an amazing song from an amazing band.
i think this song is so great! circa is one of those bands that you can listen to no matter what kind of mood youre in and always feel better than you did when you started. I think the reason why everyone loves them so much is even if you hanent experienced everything anthony has, you can find a way to relate to his lyrics and really feel the music.
im new to this site but im pretty sure I've got this song deciphered to a T. Here goes:
Ant really is singing about the situation he faced when about to leave Saosin to persue what would come to be Circa Survive (as per the story on their official website). His lyrics are vague and somewhat metaphorical, but here's what i think they mean, line by line.
Make your move, obvious humor. (Telling himself he can either go back to Saosin or stay home and work with a friend)
Desperate and respiratory plight (He knows Saosin will never find someone who can sing like him [because vocals like Ant's rely strongly on respiratory manipulation only few are capable of])
Always on Dressed to impress ill be the last one to find out why (I think he's saying that the Saosin guys are all about the show and the image and that perfect sound and he just doesn't get it, cuz he doesn't see it like that.. based on the differences between saosin & circa, id say ant is more about the music than the show. I'm not sure if Ant is as sketchy about overdubbing vocals like crazy, but he doesn't seem to do it at all with Circa Survive, so I'm thinking the overdubbing was a Saosin preference (since they still do it with Cove). As a vocalist, I know it's kind of taboo to have to record each line one at a time, or close to it, just so everything blends well. Overproducing is BAD. It kills the emotion. end.rant=true).
Time takes its toll on us This changes everything Id be a liar to deny you at all Oh,Now that I know This changes everything (he realizes that not being at home was the only thing keeping him in Saosin.[as soon as he went back home, he just couldnt leave again] Now that he has replanted his roots so quickly, he can't go back to Saosin, feeling how he does. He also realizes that it wouldn't be fair to the saosin guys if he went back to them, only to leave again shortly thereafter. which was why he didn't get on the 2nd plane. [again, as per the story on circas official site])
Ive been trading ideas with intriguing men And I... I percieve an honest solution To all your Problems (Talking to himself here, as mentioned in a comment already, ant had discussed collaborating & such with his friend (guitarist in circa, i forget the name), and it's the solution to his problem of: loving being in a band as such, but not loving being at home and having more creative control)
Remove from home I promise to write There is no gift without a price (either whoever posted the lyrics pulled this part from their ass, or there are multiple versions of this song floating around on the net, but this part could mean that Ant doesnt like being away from home but since he's where he is, with the band he's with, he's obligated to write... He no doubt enojoyed performing with Saosin, but it still tears him apart that he's so far from home.
and he amplifier screams out loud, for the last time Wave your hands at the audience, as you sink on in First chance to hide you need desperately so (this part more than speaks for itself unless you're a moron)
Motion gives up on you in the end i'll try my best to be home by then (Seems like it could've been the closing words of a sort of rushed "dont worry, ill be back soon" farewell between ant and the friend/guitarist/now bandmate in the story on circas site..)
You'll see the grace we had But you'll never have... You'll never have (could be talkign to Beau or Chris or whoever is considered the main guy behind Saosin now... or maybe even Cove.. but he's essentially saying that even though they replaced him with someone who sounded remarkably like him at times, they'll never have that sound again. He'd be right if this is the case.. Saosin will never be the same without ant.)
Im going home but my own way Im going home on my own Im going home but my own way Im going home on my own (again, pretty friggin obvious!)
I would really love if youd sit him down I would really love if you'd pull this thread (I get the feeling that some members of Saosin were pissed about what Ant did, but some were cool & sympathetic to ant about it. with these two lines, i think ant is singing to whoever was the sympathetic one and he's sort of asking him to try to ease things over with the other guys, showing that he feels bad about what he did, but he needed to do it.)... _-------
okay game over... I had much better things to say when I started, but I think I got the gist of it in there.. hopefully it makes as much sense to the readers as it does to me. I can't really tell what will and won't make sense anymore when I write it... I'm that far gone.
