Bird Gerhl Lyrics
I am a bird girl now
I've got my heart
Here in my hands now
I've been searching
For my wings some time
I'm gonna be born
Into soon the sky
'Cause I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls go to heaven
I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls can fly
Bird girls can fly
I've got my heart
Here in my hands now
I've been searching
For my wings some time
I'm gonna be born
Into soon the sky
'Cause I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls go to heaven
I'm a bird girl
And the bird girls can fly
Bird girls can fly

Can hardly begin to describe what this song does to me. Fortunately it probably does it to you too so you probably know what I'm talking about. Ok most contentless comment ever but I cannot be silent about this song, and words don't work.
This is my favorite song off the new album. I'm ending all my mixtapes with this until 2006.
pretty song... sweet
when i heard this song while watching "V for Vendetta" i looked at my friend and said, "it's antony and the johnsons, how fucking great." i love it and i love the placement of this song in the movie... it is great.
I thought this song stuck out like a sore thumb in V for Vendetta. Dont get me wrong, its a great track, but it didn't fit the scene in my opinion
im with knitting, love it on the movie
OK, this song was played for me on Pandora, and I was like wtf.....and then I listened to it again, and listened to the lyrics, and I have to say it is a weird song but hauntingly beautiful. It is sad, melancholy....I kind of like it. What was the context of this song in the movie? I've never seen V...
I think this is clearly about Antony's sexuality, which is a huge part of his identity. He feels he is finally in control of his destiny (no one can stop him from doing what he wants, personified here as flight, which he is only just ready for: "I've got my heart/Here in my hands now/I've been searching/For my wings some time/I'm gonna be born/Into soon the sky") also that gays/transgendered people will not be damned just for being gay ("bird girls go to heaven"), which also indicates belief in a higher being (many people think gays must be atheists since the religions of the Book [Christianity, Judaism, and Islam] are interpreted as condemning homosexuality) it's not specific though; its about simply being free and independent regardless of any differences
I've seen V, but i don't remember hearing this song in it.... well, it was a long time ago, and i want to see it again but i've read the scene described, and i think it would have worked wonderfully
well, i think the album can be seen as a flowing process dealing with the sense of life, relationships and judgment as well as well as a full acknowledgment and appropriation of your own identity, imperfect, in fieri and in a continuous definition. I really appreciate the fact that this kind of process is done with a will of innocence, staring and experimenting things from a kid's (today I'm a boy not a man) point of view, a kind of approach that leaves room to discoveries and opportunity of growth not been stuck in a kinda immobility. definitely a powerful declaration of helpless, sincere, dreamy will
I think this song refers to death, and to the first song of the album "hope there's someone", where antony fears to be alone in the limbos after death. In bird guhl, he finally knows that he will go to heaven, even if he is different from others. It's also about self acceptance.
I agree and it's very naturally that I dedicated this song on facebook to a 19-year girl who killed herself in March this year. I just can't listen to this song anymore without crying.
