In Every Sunflower Lyrics

My book has more bookmarks than pages
'Cos it take me ages
Or is everybody reading
Is everybody reading

Standing on a black Ulster hill
I never fear the chill
'Cos everybody's holding
Everybody's holding

I wouldn't swap the pain
For never knowing you
I wouldn't swap the pain
It was worth it for the view

My book has more bookmarks than pages
'Cos it take me ages
Or is everybody reading
Is everybody reading

Of a sparkling Medusa
With snakes of cerise and blue
And though we're all pillars of salt now
it was worth is for the view

I wouldn't swap the pain
For never knowing you
I wouldn't swap the pain
'Cos it was worth it for the view

We're still watching
Your rainbow through the shower
And we still see you
In every sunflower
We're still watching
I make days from the hours
And I still see you
In every sunflower
Every screaming sunflower

And how they scream of you

"Though we're all pillars of salt now It was worth it for the view."

I think this refers to the bible story where God destroys Sodom but saves Lot and his family but Lot's wife looks back at the destruction of the city and gets turned into salt. I like the way he twists this metaphor, to me saying, we might be looking back at pain and thus get 'turned into salt', but it's worth it. Man this is such a beautiful song. Every line is just gorgeous

I think the lines "Though we're all pillars of salt now It was worth it for the view." are explained in the lines just before them. They refer to Medusa, a Greek mythological character.

It was said if you looked upon her you would turn to stone. I think what he is saying is that even if he knew he would turn to stone it would have been still worth it getting to know her, look upon her etc

This song makes me cry without fail everytime i hear it without fail. My daddy died last year in a car accident and i found this song about a month later. Isn't it funny when you feel like a song was written exactly for you? My daddy grew sunflowers and loved them like children, we literally had hundreds around my house and we grew them on his grave at the graveyards, despite the funny looks we got!! The song makes me so sad, but so happy at the same time, kinda like he wanted me to find it you know?? Whatever anyway, the songs wonderful...

I heard this song was written about an ex girlfriend of daves that died. Its deeply touching heard live.................."And we still see u in every sunflower". i'v tears running down my cheeks just thinking about it.

It was a girlfriend of Paul Noonan's. Uaneen Fitzsimons from Ardglass, Co Down in the Province of Ulster. She died in a car crash in 2000

I mention that she was from Ulster because of the line "Standing on a black Ulster hill"

Amazing. One of those songs you hope never actually applies to you because of what it means, but right now it is reminding me of how much somebody means to me :-) Love the book metaphor; the idea that he has so many memories of this person that even one single page of them would need breaking up and remembering individually. Beautiful.
