The lack of light, hollow sea, poison beaches, limousines
Toothless dentists, cops that kill, can't stop shopping, I can't
I can't stop, the lonesome lows don't just go away overnight
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the blue ones
(Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson)
If the the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the red ones
(Hey hey hey, hey hey hey)

Another one too cold to touch, can't stop smiling, cries so much
The square-faced man in prime-time, her mind's a padded room
Whenever she gets that shrink-wrapped pill thrill in her hand again
The first to let us know she is not the perfect woman
And neither are you, who can't stop shopping, I can't
I can't stop, the lonesome lows don't just go away overnight
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the blue ones

Oh i just listened to this song for the first time. I never listened to any of Metrics unrealeased stuff before today, and i really like this song.
I really like this song, I think it's better than the version Emily is using for her solo cd. If you want to hear her's go to www.myspace.com/emilyhaines.
I think I like this one just a teeny bit better than Emily's solo version as well. Just a TEENY bit...they both have their ups and [rather small] downs.
I am currently obsessed with this song, although I can't really say I have a good guess as to what its about.
this song is about self-medicating. to professionals, this would be called prescription drug addiction/abuse.
the person in the story used to be so unhappy. they are sick of this perfect image they are supposed to embody(The first to let us know she is not the perfect woman), and they are sick of everything that is wrong in the world (toothless dentists, cops that kill) so they turn to pills to make everything bad go away. doctor blind refers to some oblivious 'doctor' who is supplying her with the pills. he doesnt care what is actually wrong, he just writes her prescription after prescription
I love this, sounds like it belongs in a musical.
this song is about abusing prescription drugs. also, i like it muchmuchmuchMUCH better than the version emily has on her solo cd.
I adore the track on Knives Don't Have Your Back.
i like emily's version better. its more haunting.
