No One Really Wins Lyrics
Welcome Love
I have made a place for you here
I know every word they say
I’m the only one to make you change
Change if you want
But don’t you go and change for me
I can love you for who you are
Didn’t mean to make you want to leave
It’s a fight between my heart and mind
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
If you don’t find the love you want
If I have acted ungracefully
I don’t want to see you go
Never meant to make you want to leave
Go if you want
Make your way straight to the door
I hope that you look back before you go
Because grace looks perfect before it starts to leave
It’s a fight between my heart and mind
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
In the end let’s find a place and cry
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
Change if you want
But don’t you go and change for me
I will love you for who you are
Didn’t mean to make you want to leave
It’s a fight between my heart and mind
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
In the end let’s find a place and cry
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
In the end let’s find a place and cry
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
I have made a place for you here
I know every word they say
I’m the only one to make you change
But don’t you go and change for me
I can love you for who you are
Didn’t mean to make you want to leave
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
If you don’t find the love you want
If I have acted ungracefully
I don’t want to see you go
Never meant to make you want to leave
Go if you want
Make your way straight to the door
I hope that you look back before you go
Because grace looks perfect before it starts to leave
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
But don’t you go and change for me
I will love you for who you are
Didn’t mean to make you want to leave
No one really wins this time
No one really wins this time
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time
I don’t want to win this time

If Logic23 is right, it would force me to to have twice as much respect for this song as I already did, which quantity was considerable.
I never thought I had quite grasped this one completely, and the gay angle...yep. It just makes sense.
new copeland = amazing.
It's not "in the end let's find a place and cry," it's really "In the endless fight of grace and pride"
But great song nonetheless
i love this song the most off the new album. it's a close one, but this one comes out on top. it just perfectly explains my life right now. "no one really wins this time". sigh. i can only hope they never stop making such beautiful music.
I don't want to win this time.
Ohohoh. So flawless.
In the endless fight of grace and pride I don’t want to win this time I don’t want to win this time...
i love copeland.
I have heard that this song is about gays in the Church. and it makes sense... his Heart wants to welcome them in to church but his mind want to drive them away.. his pride thinks that they don't deserve God but grace is telling him that they need God more...
@Logic23: Possible, though in all fairness there's a ton of issues this could cover. IMO it's an imperfect fit. "Because grace looks perfect before it starts to leave" doesn't quite feel right if that's the case, and to me the song as a whole sounds more... personal.
trav1026- thats probably because it really says grace looks back before it starts to leave. i never thought of the song being about homosexuals in a church, but when reading through the lyrics anyone can see how this is a perfect fit for the song.
One more comment, now that I've been smacked over the head and belatedly convinced that it's about homosexuality within the Church: both the Sundance Channel's documentary miniseries "One Punk Under God" (which follows the life of Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Faye, who payed a price for welcoming GLBT individuals into his ministry) and the forthcoming indie documentary "For the Bible Tells Me So" (in limited theatrical release starting on October 5) speak to the same issue in rather powerful terms.
It's long past time to beat these particular swords into plowshares. Homosexuality has been with us throughout recorded history, and we're still here and thriving, and we've got so much more important things to do than to make our brothers and sisters feel unwelcome based upon with whom they choose to go to bed at the end of the day.
Heartfelt thanks to Copeland and the contributors here.
