This is my absolute favorite song on his new CD. It's so calming and sad but still nice to listen to.
O man come on guys only one other person has said sumthing about this song i think that is a disgrace, this song is so kool and wen u really think about it describes the hole theme for in between dreams - i beleive the theme is somewhere along the lines of learing and coping with loss. apart from a few shitty songs like crying shame and staple it together the hole album is fantastic.
i want more people to write about this song !!!

I love This song. I love this song. I think it is so heart felt and he sums up loss in a short song and he did job of it too! There are afew lines I don't understand like "Down the middle drops one more grain of sand" can someone help me with that please?

i know its not coming out and saying it, but i think agree with this because a lot of things dont work out the way they should, so i guess jack just wrote a song about it
i think its about the ugliness of reality. an innocent baby will die in 2 weeks, even though he wants to give him longer to live.
its not the baby thats going to die. when he says papa cried baby cried he means the father is crying with joy and the baby is jus crying because thats what they do at their birth. its one of jack's friends who's going to die, but he's ok with it because "new life makes losing life easier to understand"... basically he sees the need for death because the baby was born. he just wishes there WASN'T a need for death.

the guitar in this song is so beautiful. I could listen to is all day. And the lyrics fit perfectly with it.

The song is about his baby being born around the same time as his grandfather died, hence the line:
"new life makes losing life easier to understand"
Oh! Thanks siblesworth! Initially I always thought that (touch wood!) it was the baby that was in trouble. Are these interviews on his official website? I've always wanted to learn more about the life behind his songs. What a bitter sweet song.
The lyrics are kinda screwed up though...
Oh and the part about 'down the middle drops one more grain of sand', I'm not very sure what it means but I have a hunch that it's refering to either a) the life that's leaving the person b) one more death among the many that have already happened.
