I recall going madly in love with you
And I remember this, how could I forget?
Regret, is a needle in my neck
It's slowly filling me with poison,
Spreading to my chest
Take my pain, and numb me from this
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken
I recall pledging my sole devotion to you
It reminds me how now I'm on my knees
My guilt consumes, lost the will in me
Wasting away before you
Hold me closer please
Take my pain, and numb me from this
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken
Yeah, Forsake
You break me
Forsake, you're breaking me
I recall going madly in love with you, and I remember this, Tell me
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken
And I remember this, how could I forget?
Regret, is a needle in my neck
It's slowly filling me with poison,
Spreading to my chest
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken
It reminds me how now I'm on my knees
My guilt consumes, lost the will in me
Wasting away before you
Hold me closer please
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken
You break me
Forsake, you're breaking me
When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken
Why do I have to beg?
When all that's left is a memory,
Forsaken

To me, this song kind of represents how you feel when you've sinned. You feel forsaken, even after you've asked forgiveness, because you haven't forgiven yourself. You feel bad so, even though it's now no more than a memory, you think God hasn't forgiven you and you beg for His forgiveness.
I agree with you guys.
But, I also see it as Jesus dying on the cross, asking God why he had forsaken him. And it ties us being forsaken, into his.
This song describes what it feels like to me when something terrible goes wrong (something more than breaking up with a boy/girlfriend or getting into a fight with parents.) A friends dies or you lose your home. You wonder how God can let somthing like that happen. how something, someone you loved so much just...disappear.
Well, not much else to add! You guts got it right on, but ccjamp... I don't see where you're comming from...
yeah, I agree that it's about us sinning, but also that they're remembering the time that they first gave their life to Jesus, and how in love they were with Him.
"I recall going madly in love with you
"I recall pledging my sole devotion to you"
and now i'ts like they've messed up and sinned and fell away from God so it's almost like they've forsaken Him and it's only a memory now... "Why do I have to beg? When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken"
I just noticed something...
"Why do I have to beg? When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken."
Notice the comma. Is it us that feels forsaken, or is it that the memory of what we've done is forsaken? Either way, this song is about dwelling on the things you've done when you're already been forgiven by Jesus Christ. That is if you've given it over to him of course =]
I always see this as a song about falling in love with sin, and then later realizing what you are doing is wrong, and devoting your life to Christ. ccjamp, you make an interesting point, but if it was Christ, it would be while He was still in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane while on the mountain. That is where He is most in despair, except for the period on the cross soon before He dies
This song troubles me. It really seems to be saying that God has forsaken us, but I know that Skillet usually has very good theology (in m opinion at least), and that the Bible says "[God] will never leave you nor forsake you"...
Especially: "Yeah, Forsake You break me Forsake, you're breaking me"
I don't get it... I don't see how he isn't exactly saying "I'm forsaken by God"... :s

i think misunderstanding this, it's a dark song but the idea (in my interpretation anyways) is just saying God why have you forsaken, because that's how you feel. there are times as Christians we feel like God isn't there for you, when he really is. it's basically saying God Forgives but YOU don't.

I also don't see the message that we're forgiven by God no matter what, as long as we ask for Him to forgve us. It just seems to be a really negative song...
this is my first time commenting, but I just happened upon a website that had on it an interview with John Cooper on what this song means. He said that it was about how people kind of forget what they were passionate about and who they wanted to be back when they were younger, because the stress and business of life has gotten you distracted from it. It's about looking at yourself now and wondering where all of those good things went, and how all you have now is a memory of them forsaken. If you wanna see it for yourself heres the address http://www.theskilletsizzle.com/id115.html I hope this helps, SKILLET ROCKS!!!!
