Born To Be A Dancer Lyrics
You and me we're made
It's impossible to say
To be together always
Then you moved away
To the capital of England
I hoped you stay there
Once you asked me what I'm thinking
'I lay back and think of England'
Do you know my real answer?
'I was born to be a dancer'
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
I came down at your
-on the national express-
Request, to touch your breasts
And there I found that you,
You were hanging with crowd
A load of cheats and liars
Do you know what I've been thinking?
'I lay back and think of England'
Do you know my real answer?
'I was born to be a dancer'
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Once you asked me what I'm thinking...
'I lay back and think of England'
Do you know my real answer?
'I was born to be a dancer'
Do you know what I've been thinking?

Just a little known fact: When girls in England have sex for the first time, they are told to just "lie back and think of England" so that's where that line comes from. Other than that, I'm having a hard time interpreting the song. I really like it though.
actually its a line from a james bond film, not sure which, girls are definately NOT told that

its possible that 'dancing' refers to a stripper or something. That would explain the 'lie back and think of England' sexual reference and the new crowd of 'cheats and liars'... That's all i got...
I think this song is about a Boy and a Girl who begin dating and have sex just once before the girl moves away to England possibly to find her self or maybe to attend a finishing school...
She moves to the big city and beings hanging out with the wrong crowd, the entire boy can think of while she’s gone is the first time they had sex...
Desperate to be with her again, he travels to the big city and finds out that his love has become a dancer in a lust-bar, the lines:
Do you know what I've been thinking? 'I lay back and think of England' Do you know my real answer? 'I was born to be a dancer'
Show the argument between the boy and girl when he confronts her... He tells her all he’s been thinking about was her and there first time together, she tell him that even though she loves him she was born to do this.
"Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh" could possibly be him questioning her motives "Oh really?" or possibly even the sounds of them having sex the first time or if he forgives her then after the story is told...
This is my interpretation.
What I got from this, at least the chorus: "Once you asked me what I'm thinking 'I lay back and think of England' Do you know my real answer? 'I was born to be a dancer' "
I think it means she told him that she was a virgin, when in truth, she worked as an stripper/exotic dancer type.
That's about it, sorry I couldn't help a bit more.
I think that he feels constrained by having one lover, in that he's supposed to be there for her, but he knows that she's cheating on him (you were hanging with a crowd...) and shows her that he doesn't need her.
"just lay back and think of England" was said to victorian women as they were not supposed to enjoy sex, it was for the man's enjoyment only, the woman's job was to bare the child. Of course that's absolute bollocks today, but it could mean that he doesn't enjoy sex with her, but it's his duty to her, perhaps he feels guilty about cheating on her.
But then he lets it out "I was born to be a dancer" it's like he was born to be free, what he wanted to be, and there is a paralel with sexual desire there as well. A "dancer" might be someone who has a lot of sexual partners, but he justifies it as he was born like that.
That is my interpretation anyway
It sounds to me like he just wants this girl for sex, but she wants something more. He wants her to stay away, but she asks him what he's thinking and requests him to come see her. (And he does, but just to "touch her breasts!")
i think the lyrics should be:
you and me were made -its impossible to say- to be together always
thats the style of the next verse anyway. i really like this song, even though i still haven't a clue what its supposed to be about.

I Love this song anyway
I think this song is about his girlfriend who left him to go to London to dance, and he came down to visit her. But she found a new group of friends " a crowd of cheats and liars.'' So i think hes saying the big city life changed her.
