France Lyrics
The ideal girl
in London from France
came over then left me
she left me entranced
now I have to get by
once again on my own
nothing but memories
So I remember your eyes
that unique shade of brown
while these blue eyes of mine they stay closed
I kissed you goodbye on the M109
I choked as I watched the bus go
I'm choking and smoking to your angelic soul
I'm choking and smoking myself into a hole
where the only way out is to sleep and to dream
and to cry out your name
in London from France
came over then left me
she left me entranced
now I have to get by
once again on my own
nothing but memories
that unique shade of brown
while these blue eyes of mine they stay closed
I kissed you goodbye on the M109
I choked as I watched the bus go
I'm choking and smoking myself into a hole
where the only way out is to sleep and to dream
and to cry out your name

this is on the libertines album i never heard babyshambles play this
Yeah Carl wrote this so what the hell is Pete doing with it??? Ah well, I still love Pete....
I'd love to hear Babyshambles perform this, but I doubt they could do better than Carl :D
This is carls song, nothing to do with pete. I brought a bootleg cd called Babyshambles sessions and this was on thier and Carl was singing. :-S
Babyshambles is a Libertines CD recorded by Peter and Carl in a New York hotel (at least I'm pretty sure it was in new york)... because Peter's nick name is "Baby shambles"
Yeah "France" is a Libs song, it was wrote and sung by Carl and is on The Libertines self titled album. It's also on "Babyshambles Sessions" an imported cd with The Libertines and Babyshamble songs on it.
Why is this on the babyshambles songs?it was written by carl about an ex girlfriend and had nothing to do with pete.it did appear however in a number of forms on the numerous libs bootlegs collectively known as babyshambles sessions, and as a secret track on the second libs album
set up a Carlos Barat artist thread bit NOW...this is insulting to him!
bless Carlos
it was actually first on the libertines demo EP called legs XI. introduced as 'carlos barat with his self penned classic'. pretty conclusive no?
Pete's never sang this song.
I have a live version of Pete singing this, so he has sung this song before. But to be fair, it's the only time I've heard of him singing it, despite the fact that there are dozens of versions of "France" floating around. As it's been pointed out already, it's pretty well-established that this is Carl's song. I'm also fairly sure it's from a solo gig rather than a Babyshambles show, so even though Pete sang it once by himself it probably shouldn't be an entry here.
But since I'm here anyway... In the track I have the lines about eye color are reversed (So I remember your eyes/That unique shade of blue/While these brown eyes of mine they stay closed). I have to admit that kind of made me sad. :-( I prefer the (many) versions of Carl singing this song, but this one was pretty, as are most of the songs Pete sings.
