In the line 'like i'm eleven again' its about when he gave his life to Jesus. The whole soul thing is about the world needing to be saved because if your not then there is nothing for you:

Something for everyone to think of.

In my opinion, soul can mean a lot of things. Having "soul" could reflect really being alive or happiness. Letting go and realising there's no time to waste is the idea. That's how you end up living life fully and having that sense of soul. Maybe there's just no point to life without it.

wow! i'm so proud to be the first person to comment! well i really love this song, one of my favourites on tourist, but i don't fully understand the meaning of it. i mean, what is all the soul stuff about? but other than that, a really cool song

no idea what the song is about. but very interesting lyrics indeed.

It's about his finding out his daughter had a seizure two hours after she was born, and the thoughts going through his head as he hurried back to the hospital. The "your soul" is once the child became stable, and they knew she would survive, her soul too would survive.

i agree with lesplee123. its a beautiful song. the beginning is very, soothing, near childlike tune.

Actually, I thought this sounded like it was about God. And I'd heard that Wires was about his daughter (those lyrics would definitely make sense). Of course they could both be about his daughter, but to me this describes well how it feels when you've been away from God and come back again. "Lifting up all your soul, I thank you for soul" But its a very adaptable song, it could mean any of those things, and more.

i think this whole thing is about how he is thanking the person who gave him the drugs because he thinks that drugs are basically the best thing everr
