Quite Rightly So Lyrics
For you (whose eyes were opened wide whilst mine refused to see)
I'm sore in need of saving grace. Be kind and humor me
I'm lost amidst a sea of wheat
Where people speak but seldom meet
And grief and laughter, strange but true
Although they die, they seldom cry
An ode by any other name I know might read more sweet
Perhaps the sun will never shine upon my field of wheat
But still in closing, let me say
For those too sick, too sick to see
Though nothing shows, yes, someone knows
I wish that one was me
I'm sore in need of saving grace. Be kind and humor me
I'm lost amidst a sea of wheat
Where people speak but seldom meet
And grief and laughter, strange but true
Although they die, they seldom cry
Perhaps the sun will never shine upon my field of wheat
But still in closing, let me say
For those too sick, too sick to see
Though nothing shows, yes, someone knows
I wish that one was me

Good comments, Nimble. My favorite line I often use is in "In Held.." The lesson lies in learning and by teaching I'll be taught. For there's nothing hidden anywhere, it's all there to be sought.
Hello sonztwin. I would very much like you to give an interpretation to In Held Twas In I. It's on this website. I wrote mine and I'd like to know what you think. John.

this song, like the whole Shine on Brightly album, contains some of the most existential lyrics ever put on disc. it reminds me a lot of RD Laing who was big in those days. the lyric--tho nothing shows, someone knows--reminds me of Laings comment that experience never shows, that we are "invisible men" and i think that Keith Reid "knew" at one time or another. the problem with "knowing" is that a lot of the time it doesnt last--and you are left where you started
it might be about sadness in love and not getting what you want. it's about another person crossing out your plan/desire...[an ode by any other name i know might read more sweat], [perhaps the sun will never shine upon my field of wheat]
I think @Pretty_Ugly_before has it kinda right. It seems as if its a song about longing for someone who doesn't feel the same towards you, but in the end stating that you know love exist and even if it isn't between the two of you, it may be there one day.
Genius lyrics by Keith Reid. One of the all time great poets in rock music, along with Van Dyke Parks, Peter Sinfield, Richard Palmer James and Bernie Taupin.
