Sleeping Bag Lyrics
I don't want to see your head caved in
I can't stand to see them wear you in
Why'd you go and do that to your head
Are you so god damn miserable you'd feel better off if you were dead
And then the tears in my eyes makes the road all wet and hard
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see
The car she's coming straight at you, what are you gonna do?
Look out
I can't stand to see the shape you're in
I won't be there when they bring you in
I can't believe you'd leave me all alone
I can't believe you're not...
You're not coming home
And then the tears in my eyes makes the road all wet and hard
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see, the car she's coming straight at you, watcha gonna do?
Watch out!
I can't stand to see your head caved in
I won't be there when they wheel you in
Why'd you go and do that to your head?
Are you so goddamned miserable you'd feel better of if you were dead?
And then the tears in my eyes makes the road all wet and hard
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see, the car, she's coming straight at you
Hey, what are you gonna do?
Someone call the doctor
And your dying and you don't know
You make me hate myself, cause you're my only brother
And I can't say I love you
And this is pretty hard
You're not around so I can hold your hand
So I, crawl...I crawl inside your sleeping bag
And I don't think...you'll make it home alive
Please, make it home alive
I can't stand to see them wear you in
Why'd you go and do that to your head
Are you so god damn miserable you'd feel better off if you were dead
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see
The car she's coming straight at you, what are you gonna do?
I can't stand to see the shape you're in
I won't be there when they bring you in
I can't believe you'd leave me all alone
I can't believe you're not...
You're not coming home
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see, the car she's coming straight at you, watcha gonna do?
Watch out!
I can't stand to see your head caved in
I won't be there when they wheel you in
Why'd you go and do that to your head?
Are you so goddamned miserable you'd feel better of if you were dead?
For you to drive, you never had a chance to see, the car, she's coming straight at you
Hey, what are you gonna do?
And your dying and you don't know
You make me hate myself, cause you're my only brother
And I can't say I love you

And I don't think...you'll make it home alive
Please, make it home alive

Sleeping Bag is the saddest song I've ever heard in the history of my entire life. Several years ago I remember hearing this song every now and then on the radio. When I first began to listen to this type of music I learned that Mark Hennessey, the lead singer of Paw, wrote this song and dedicated it to his younger brother. He was hit by a car when they were just kids and Mark feels guilty because he thinks that he somehow could have saved him. Mark only had one brother and it broke his heart when he died, because they were such great friends.
The last stanza of this song tears me up.
By the way, you're welcome Zach. You deserve everything that Grunge music has to offer. No other type of music will entertain you more, no other type of music will teach you more, and no other type of music will make you wonder how it could be so incredible, yet no longer exists.
The song was written by Grant Fitch (guiarist) about his brother Peter Fitch (drummer) who was hit and nearly killed by a car. Grant slept in Peter's sleeping bag while he was recovering as a way of getting close to his brother, hence 'I crawl inside your sleeping bag'. I read this in Teletext in about 1993. ;)
this song is a very deep and a very "touching" song. i think its about who is doing something to themselves, such as drugs, that they know will end up killing them. yet they dont stop because they dont enjoy their life anyway. and this song takes place from the point of view of someone who obviously loves the person very much and hates to see them going down like they are. i also think there is some frusteration and anger that the person is going to or has already left or is leaving the singer all alone.
very awesome and very deep song, paw is awesome, just nobody has ever heard of them.
P.S. thanks luke "seymour jugs" for showing me this song, and overall, grunge music. you rock dude.
that is a good comment Seymour i think it makes since how you said it. by the way, Zach is a really cool name.
This my favorite PAW song. The way the melody shifts with the bridge is such a severe contrast (..And the tears in my eyes) adds a surrealness to the scene; as we sometimes feel when we are wrought with grief. It is almost as the pain numbs you, pushing you into a dreamlike intoxication that you are forced to survive in...if only for a few moments- until a Doctor is needed for both the victim and survivor.
