My Lady's House Lyrics

There is light in my lady’s house
And there’s none but some falling rain
This like a spoken word
She is more than her thousand names

No hands are half as gentle
Or firm as they like to be
Thank God you see me the way you do
Strange as you are to me

It is good in my lady's house
And the shape that her body makes
Love is a fragile word
In the air on the wrinkly lane

No hands are half as gentle
Or firm as they like to be
Thank God you see me the way you do
Strange as you are to me

i'm surprised no one's commented on this song yet.. it is absolutely beautiful, so incredibly moving; though much of Iron & Wine's work is. I think this is about someone he knows loves him, but can't figure out why. He can't really figure out her many sides or why she loves him, and he doesn't really need to know why, just knowing that she loves him is more than enough to get him through the day. Pure beauty. Sam Beam you are a genius.

it sounds more like "every shape that her body makes" instead of "and the shape...etc." to me, but i could be wrong, of course.

this song is a perfect lullaby, a song to listen to while lying in the arms of your lover (m/f).

This is one of the only songs that brought me close to crying. And That RARELY happens.

"No hands are half as gentle Or firm as they like to be "

"Thank God you see me the way you do "

i'm glad i don't have to be either.

(that's what i gather, anyway.)

wow, i just heard this song for the first time... not only is the song great, but the Woman King EP is such a strange blend of his earlier stuff and his latest album and should hold up a lot longer than even the full LPs he's released.

not to dissapoint the people who carry this song as a personal meaning to themselves... Anyone can interpret it as they may like or how the might feel in spite of their life experience.... but it is aparent to me that this song is about being with a prostitute...hence the terms he uses.."she is more than her thousand names": prostitutes use many names, "strange as you are to me": he's with her for the money they don't know each other, "love is a fragile word on the air on the wrinkly lane", it's a lane ..he's on the street with her and love is fragile word because he can't say he loves her given the fact it's purely business..... nevertheless he feels so good in her house(her body) and he has fallen in love with her...she may seem tough due to her profesion , but when making love with him she shows her gentle side...."no hands are half as gentle or firm as they'd like to be"......to sum it all up he sees in her more than what she apears to be...and he loves her
