Your God Is Fear Lyrics
your god is fear
but all you are
is all there is
your god is fear
theres nothing more
than all of this
your god is fear
been and gone
in the blink of an eye
fear of ever breathimng
fear of ever leaving
fear of ever changing forever from now
your god is fear
your god is fear
your god is fear
your god is fear
that all you are
is all there is
your god is fear
of nothing more
than all of this
your god is fear
the been and gone
in the blink of an eye
fear of ever choosing it
fear of ever loosing it
fear of ever playing forever for now
your god is fear
your god is fear
your god is fear
just for a moment
feal it inside
feal it alive
feal your desire
feel it conspire
feel it inspire
oh now all you are
is all there is
nothing ever moved in any of this
open your mind
stare out of time
let yourself die
and your god is
your god is
your god
but all you are
is all there is
theres nothing more
than all of this
been and gone
in the blink of an eye
fear of ever leaving
fear of ever changing forever from now
your god is fear
your god is fear
that all you are
is all there is
of nothing more
than all of this
the been and gone
in the blink of an eye
fear of ever loosing it
fear of ever playing forever for now
your god is fear
your god is fear
feal it inside
feal it alive
feel it conspire
feel it inspire
is all there is
nothing ever moved in any of this
stare out of time
let yourself die
your god is
your god

This song seems very simple for me to understand. You have to view the world in a naturalistic/atheistic way, as Robert Smith seems to see it. Many of his songs have a different meaning when viewed this way. I share his way of looking at life and this song is a critique of the character of god, and the reasons why people hold on to these beliefs. The song tells the person for whom this is intended that this is it and what you see is what you get, and seems to tell the person to try and contemplate this idea in saying, "just for a moment feel it inside feel it alive, feel your desire feel it conspire feel it inspire."
For someone for whom there is no supernatural and only the natural world exists, this is the one and only life. But instead of being something which causes dread or depression, one has to see it as your unique single chance to live which goes by "in the blink of an eye" and is held as precious.
In the lines "oh now all you are, is all there is, nothing ever moved in any of this," he flat out tells the listener that there is no god who took part in setting the universe, and that belief is based on fear of the uncertain. But reassures that there is nothing to fear in this.
@abiudb It seems obvious to me too. (Reality Only!) I tend to link this song mentally with "Where the Birds Always Sing" because the ideas expressed in the two songs come across to me as very similar: people deceive and burden themselves with supernatural beliefs because they want something that doesn't exist, because they're afraid of recognising that (for example) there isn't anything "after" death.

i think that by god they mean someone who rules over there life so they mean that fear rules over you life and makes you afrain to try anything
Smith has always been rather pessimistic about religion. His was a rather disillusioned generation, which I think is interesting considering how spiritual he seems in contrast to he strongly nonreligious views. Maybe 'spiritual' isn't the right word. But he does tend to address several deeper/poetic issues than many other artists do.
Bloodflowers had some extremely daoist/deist themes to it, i.e. observing the infinite truth goodness and beauty infinitely expressed in the natural order of the world found even within the tiniest confines of human experience.
...to see the world without as you see world within, and vice-versa.
He later on continued to explore these themes in the song entitled "Truth, goodness, and beauty," which took it on from a more "Heisenberg" or "Heraclitean" perspective.
Truth will always slip through even the narrowest definitions... the best we can do is feel them slipping through... just enough to remind us that it's there for us to find after all.

I dunno: I've encountered a lot of people who cling determinedly to ignorance, who seem immune to reality. (Climate change denialists come to mind.)
