Going Up The Country Lyrics
I'm going up the country, babe don't you wanna go
I'm going up the country, babe don't you wanna go
I'm going to some place where I've never been before
I'm going, I'm going where the water tastes like wine
Well I'm going where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussing and fighting, man, you know I sure can't stay
Now baby, pack your leaving trunk, you know we've got to leave today
Just exactly where we're going I cannot say, but We might even leave
the USA 'Cause there's a brand new game that I want to play
No use of you running, or screaming and crying
'Cause you've got a home as long as I've got mine
'Cause you've got a home as long as I've got mine

i love this song it all about leaving the worries of the world behind and not wanting to put up with the same old shit on of the best songs ever
I love Canned Heat, but they committed plagiarism when they claimed authorship of this tune. It was performed in 1928 by an obscure bluesman named Henry Thomas under the name "Bull Doze Blues."

It's obviously a cover. They claimed authorship of the lyrics they wrote in place of those for Bull Doze Blues, but I doubt very highly they tried to claim they wrote the instrumentation.

I happened upon this song the day my mother in law died. I remember woodstock. I think it's very clear it is about dieing. Where the water tastes like wine!
@kodpkd Funny, I happened upon this song the day I met my best friend. I was on the way home from his funeral a month ago, and I heard the song on the radio. It was beautiful, in a way.

Badass song. Puts you in a good mood. These guys should have made more music than they did!
I thought the last line was "Youv'e got a home aslong as Iv'e got arms"
Sorry xSiddersx, you are going mad. Those are the original lyrics........This is a very good song...Probably their best one.....but then again, I haven't heard all of them so I may be wrong.....But this is a great song, nonetheless, and if you want to get started listening to Canned Heat, this is definately the song you should listen to.
(FYI: the lead singers voice isn't always this high pitched, he actually has a fairly deep voice)
love this song.... first heard it the summer i was 16 and fell in love ever since because it just sends the message dont worry about a thing and live life as it should be uncomplicated and fun! its such a carefree song that sends you to the fields of woodstock dancing around and just simply living life :o)
this song is the BEST SONG EVER!. it was in the movie Into the Wild which i highly recommend seeing its probably my favorite movie of all time. This song just makes me want to hitch hike across the country.
