"Going Up The Country" as written by and Alan C Wilson....
I'm goin' up the country, baby don't you want to go?
I'm goin' up the country, baby don't you want to go?
I'm goin' to some place, I've never been before

I'm goin' I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine
I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time

I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussin' and fightin' man, you know I sure can't stay

So baby pack your leavin' trunk
You know we've got to leave today
Just exactly where we're goin' I cannot say
But we might even leave the U.S.A.
It's a brand new game, that I want to play

No use in your runnin', or screamin' and cryin'
'Cause you got a home as long as I've got mine

General CommentI love Canned Heat, but they committed plagiarism when they claimed authorship of this tune. It was performed in 1928 by an obscure bluesman named Henry Thomas under the name "Bull Doze Blues."

Song MeaningI happened upon this song the day my mother in law died. I remember woodstock. I think it's very clear it is about dieing. Where the water tastes like wine!

General CommentSorry xSiddersx, you are going mad. Those are the original lyrics........This is a very good song...Probably their best one.....but then again, I haven't heard all of them so I may be wrong.....But this is a great song, nonetheless, and if you want to get started listening to Canned Heat, this is definately the song you should listen to.

(FYI: the lead singers voice isn't always this high pitched, he actually has a fairly deep voice)

General Commentlove this song.... first heard it the summer i was 16 and fell in love ever since because it just sends the message dont worry about a thing and live life as it should be uncomplicated and fun! its such a carefree song that sends you to the fields of woodstock dancing around and just simply living life :o)
