Strange Powers Lyrics
On the ferris wheel looking out on Coney island
Under more stars than there are prostitues in Thailand
Our hair in the air, our lips blue from cotton candy
When we kiss it feels like a flying saucer landing
And I can't sleep
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
In Las Vegas where the electric bills are straggring
The decor hog wild and the entertainment saccharine
What a Golden age, what a time of right and reason
The consumer's king and unhappyness is treason
And I can't sleep
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
The sun pours down like honey
The moon comes down like mercury
The stars fall down like money
And you come down to me
And I can't sleep
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
Under more stars than there are prostitues in Thailand
Our hair in the air, our lips blue from cotton candy
When we kiss it feels like a flying saucer landing
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
The decor hog wild and the entertainment saccharine
What a Golden age, what a time of right and reason
The consumer's king and unhappyness is treason
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
The moon comes down like mercury
The stars fall down like money
And you come down to me
'Cause you've got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers

he's in love, but not with a woman. read the liner notes of every magnetic fields release; stephen merritt chose the name "Gay and Loud" for his publishing company for his songs
rhyming "staggering" with "saccharine" sounds terrible, but he makes it work. incredible.
My favorite MF song, and the first of theirs I ever heard. Nobody else could write a stunning lyric like "what a golden age, what a time of right and reason. the consumers king and unhappiness is treason" and pair it with such an upbeat, sunny melody. Every time I hear this song it feels like it's summer and I just have to dance.
GREAT F-ing song. Can't believe nobody else has replied to this. The Magnetic Fields are one of those bands that nobody knows about, but those of us who do thank God everyday we are in the know. This is my fav lyric-wise. Stephen Merritt is a genius.
My existence would have more meaning if I ever met Stephin Merritt.

Yeah! Why hasn't anyone left a comment about this song? (!) My favorite, personally...
and i can't sleep cause you got strange powers. you're in my dreams, strange powers.
Like why can't Stephen sing that to me? I wish that he would. This song totally wrecks every other, absolutely extra-special! Lalala...brilliant, I love you Stephen Merritt
Good song.
the perfect song. everything about it. perfect.
i mean, you would think it'd be terrible. it sounds great, really.
It seem so dreamlike, with the way the vocals almost sound like they're coming at your through water.
I have fallen completely in love with this song. So good.
