"Strange Powers" as written by and Stephin Raymond Merritt....
On the Ferris wheel
Looking out on Coney Island
Under more stars than
There are prostitutes in Thailand
Our hair in the air
Our lips blue from cotton candy
When we kiss, it feels
Like a flying saucer landing

And I can't sleep
'Cause you got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers

In Las Vegas where
The electric bills are staggering
The decor hog wild
And the entertainment saccharin
What a golden age
What a time of right and reason
The consumer's king
And unhappiness is treason

And I can't sleep
'Cause you got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers

The Sun falls down like honey
The Moon pours down like mercury
The stars fall down like money
And you come back to me
And I can't sleep
'Cause you got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers
And I can't sleep
'Cause you got strange powers
You're in my dreams
Strange powers

General CommentMy favorite MF song, and the first of theirs I ever heard. Nobody else could write a stunning lyric like "what a golden age, what a time of right and reason. the consumers king and unhappiness is treason" and pair it with such an upbeat, sunny melody. Every time I hear this song it feels like it's summer and I just have to dance.

General Commenthe's in love, but not with a woman. read the liner notes of every magnetic fields release; stephen merritt chose the name "Gay and Loud" for his publishing company for his songs

rhyming "staggering" with "saccharine" sounds terrible, but he makes it work. incredible.

General CommentGREAT F-ing song. Can't believe nobody else has replied to this. The Magnetic Fields are one of those bands that nobody knows about, but those of us who do thank God everyday we are in the know. This is my fav lyric-wise. Stephen Merritt is a genius.

General CommentMy bf just sent me this song. The artist has a talent for off the wall lyrics, but they work! It's about a man who is totally in love with a girl. It has a great sound. It makes me happy :)

General CommentIt seem so dreamlike, with the way the vocals almost sound like they're coming at your through water.
