You Don't Have to Let Go Lyrics

I don't need your strength anymore
cause you've made me strong
You may not see the woman in me
That you dreamed of
Holding in your arms

All the days that you gave
All the moments you've saved me,
Praying for my life
Sacrificed, just to make me who I am on my own
You don't have to let go

You don't say it
But it's in your eyes
All the fears of good-bye
But I can promise
You'll always have a place, and a way to my heart

All the days that you gave
All the moments you've saved me,
Praying for my life
Sacrificed, just to make me who I am on my own
You don't have to let go

I can live
Cause you lived for me
And I can love
Because you loved me.

All the days that you gave
All the moments you've saved me,
Praying for my life
Sacrificed, just to make me who I am on my own
You don't have to let go

(Ooh ooh ooh)
You don't have to let go

i had never thought about the father/daughter relationship, but now it makes so much sense...

at the beggining i thought it was: "you may not see the one light in me but you dreamed of holding me in your arms..."

anyway, this song could also have that interpretation of the girl and the guy who are not really meant to be together but who had something beautiful in the past, something that she thinks should not be forgotten...

;)

and Nebolous... she's also not my idol, but i think she's a really great singer too !

Well.. this song is about letting go of some-one you love. She's telling the guy that he's made her strong and she can rely on herself now and that she knows she not the person he dreamed of spending his life with and she's facing up to the fact and she saying that after all this he'll always have a place in her heart for him and that he helped her and even though shes gna miss him, she knows she'll fall in love again.

I had a slightly different interpretation of this song. I see this song as a father/daughter wedding day song. It's the emotions a father watching a new man move into his daughter's life, for good.

"You may not see the woman in me That you dreamed of Holding in your arms"

I think she is referring to the woman he pictured, holding his infant daughter in his arms. Next, she talks about all the praying he did for her, saving her live, sacrificing to raise her to be an independant woman. It just seems like a tribute to her father for all he did for her as a child. Even though she have found a husband, her father will always have a special place in her heart.

Digitaljs, good point! Thx ;) It must be it, never thought about it that way.

"You don't say it But it's in your eyes All the fears of good-bye But I can promise You'll always have a place, and a way to my heart"

Daughter/Father, no doubt!

this song was written about her father, because she says so in the special thanks in the CD. There's no question, although I really don't like Joe Simpson.

During her last tour, her last show was in LA. And she was talking about how she wrote this song for her dad. Because the day she married Nick, he thought he was going to lose her forever. So he "cries every time she sings that song"

It's really a beautiful, beautiful song. And I do believe that everybody can truly relate.
