this is my favorite song!!! i think its about tori wanting the man of her dreams, to come and take her away but he did something wrong and so shes telling him that he could of had her. but he screwed it up because of the "mother revolution" hmmmmmmm.......

I think this song is very clearly about an uprising against the patriarchy

I think this is one of her very few straight-forward songs. She might have said that it is about mothers and children, but I still believe it is about a man who doesn't appreciate her as he should have. With the "lucky me, I guessed the kind of man that you would turn out to be. Now I wish that I'd been wrong". It talks about her natural reticence trusting people. Always wary of what might be said or done to her, always defensive or even offensive. So, it's evident she loved this man deeply, but it would look like the man couldn't or didn't appreciate her as he should have. I'm leaning towards the "couldn't understand her" theory.
As for the black mares part- I think she's talking about some kind of revenge. Or most likely how she'll just leave him and go on with her own life. I picture her in the threshold of the entrance door, singing this song.

I definitely agree with stentorian. It's about a man she loved, that couldn't appreciate/understand her, and her about to take revenge.
