Mother Revolution Lyrics

Lucky me
I guessed the kind of man
that you would turn out to be
Now I wish that I\'d been wrong and then
I could remember to breathe
And all along the Watchtower
the night horses and the black mares
ready themselves for the outcome
for the strange times upon us

But what you didn\'t count on
was another Mother of
a Mother Revolution
but what you didn\'t count on
was another Mother of
a Mother Revolution

you could\'ve had me
you could\'ve had me
you could\'ve had me
Right there beside you
you could\'ve had me, boy
you could\'ve had me, yeah
you could\'ve had me
Right there beside you

A wife on loan in a cafe
in old El Paso
Next I go to
Seven Gates and my sister\'s Bass Bonanza
And all along her Watchtower
the night horses and the black mares
steady themselves for the outcome
for the strange days upon us

What you didn\'t count on
was another Mother of
a Mother Revolution

but what you didn\'t count on
was another Mother of
a Mother Revolution

you could\'ve had me
you could\'ve had me
you could\'ve had me
Right there beside you
you could\'ve had me, boy
you could\'ve had me, yeah
you could\'ve had me
Right there beside you

What you didn\'t count on
was another Mother of
a Mother Revolution

this is my favorite song!!! i think its about tori wanting the man of her dreams, to come and take her away but he did something wrong and so shes telling him that he could of had her. but he screwed it up because of the "mother revolution" hmmmmmmm.......

"One thing that gets underestimated are the moms in the world. And when the moms have had enough of their children dying for causes that they don't agree with - once they really understand that the causes aren't what they're told they are - then there is a revolution. But it happens internally first, and sometimes very quietly. It's not always with machetes and gunfire." -Tori Amos

I think this song is very clearly about an uprising against the patriarchy

Yeah, stop patriarchy and stuff.

I think this is one of her very few straight-forward songs. She might have said that it is about mothers and children, but I still believe it is about a man who doesn't appreciate her as he should have. With the "lucky me, I guessed the kind of man that you would turn out to be. Now I wish that I'd been wrong". It talks about her natural reticence trusting people. Always wary of what might be said or done to her, always defensive or even offensive. So, it's evident she loved this man deeply, but it would look like the man couldn't or didn't appreciate her as he should have. I'm leaning towards the "couldn't understand her" theory.

As for the black mares part- I think she's talking about some kind of revenge. Or most likely how she'll just leave him and go on with her own life. I picture her in the threshold of the entrance door, singing this song.

I definitely agree with stentorian. It's about a man she loved, that couldn't appreciate/understand her, and her about to take revenge.
