Has anyone else noticed how the lyric: "I. I have heard. that you can play the way I like it to be played" kind of mimics the line in 'Precious Things' "He said you're really an ugly girl, but I like the way you play..."
The Beekeeper is a much softer, gentler album as others have commented and 13 years after 'Little Earthquakes' Tori Amos seems to have resolved a lot of her sexual/feminine angst (e.g. she married and had a baby), so now she is more at ease with herself and men and sexuality, etc. and hence the lyric reflects that.

it is VERY self explanatory. she needs the man, but is wary. she knows she\'s in for some shit but like all of us, she wants to sweet the sting.
To get closer to the scorpion's tail is to connect and get closer with this guy, and most of all, risk a discernable sting. Other guys she'd become close to would sting her (as they should've) and leave wounds. The right type of sting would leave her wanting more.
I love this song. I think it's one of the best songs on this album. This song, along with Hoochie Woman sound like the Tori I enjoy hearing. This album is more subtle and comtemporary. It's way different than what I'm used to hearing from Little Earthquakes, Pele, Choirgirl, but, eh, it will do. She is getting older, and along with that comes the mellow caca, but, she's still the best!
i agree with boysforpele, it is really mellow, but im glad that even now she can make wonderful music with contemporary beats without comprimising her beautiful lyrics.

Awesome song - typically Tori that demonstrates her amazing vocal range. Gotta love it!
There's also the fable of the scorpion and the fox.
The scorpion wants to cross a river, and asks the fox to carry him across. The fox won;t do it, she's afraid the scorpion will sting her, and she'll drown. The scorpion promises not to, and she agrees, but as they reach the middle of the river, the scorpion stings her. As they sink, the fox asks the scorpion why he stung her, as they'll now both drown, and the scorpion replies simply "sorry... it's in my nature."

Cinnabar is what is used to make quick silver, or mercury. Mercury is also known to cause madness to insanity. Perhaps her "cinnabar juice" is like some sort of madness potion. So in other words, he's wants to know if her crazy ways will make things worse or better for him. There's a very strong sexual connotation in that line and with this whole song if you read between the lines.
