Audrey, Start The Revolution! Lyrics
Maybe tonight we'll get back together
Sound the alarms and break all the levers
These streets are ours
Our anthem rings
You'd know the truth if these walls could sing
Amateur youth, sling down those signs
Gather the masses, friends of mine
I've got your back if you've got my hand
This isn't over, it just began
If this isn't love
(This isn't love)
This is the closest I've ever been
Do you think we have a chance tonight
As streetlights sing on Audrey's song? (x2)
Remind your parents we're tomorrow
Lead with morals and we'll follow
When they wake up they'll see
That youth fades and glory days deceive
What are you waiting for?
Let's move on this
Time is of essence, like your kiss
So say you're in with cards down and guns drawn
This is it
If this isn't love
(This isn't love)
This is the closest I've ever been
Do you think we have a chance tonight
As streetlights sing on Audrey's song? (x2)
And now it stops at this
We could take it all, if only we would risk
You can be what you can conceive
Red letters kill your disbelief
We all make mistakes sometimes
We all have failed where we stand tonight
Look past, learn, and move on
We're all here
You're not the only one
If this isn't love
(This isn't love)
This is the closest I've ever been
Do you think we have a chance tonight
As streetlights sing on Audrey's song? (x5)
Sound the alarms and break all the levers
These streets are ours
Our anthem rings
You'd know the truth if these walls could sing
Gather the masses, friends of mine
I've got your back if you've got my hand

I may be totally out with this, but when I listen to it, it sounds like a rally call to young Christians out there to get their act together and pro-actively shine like lights in todays world.
"Our anthem rings, You'd know the truth if these walls could sing" - talking about the Gospel here? and rocks crying out when we dont? (Luke 19:40)
"Amateur youth, sling down those signs, Gather the masses, friends of mine, I've got your back if you've got my hand, This isn't over, it just began" - feels to me like he's saying like were just young and we're amateurs but lets get together, all of us, and lets go cos its just begun, we're in it together and we need as many people as we can
"Remind your parents we're tomorrow Lead with morals and we'll follow" - we're the future, and we got lead with a good example, Christ's example
"What are you waiting for?" "Time is of essence" "This is it"
"We could take it all, if only we would risk, You can be what you can conceive, Red letters kill your disbelief" - red letters perhaps a reference to Red Letter Bibles, saying be encouraged and strengthened by Jesus' words and dont doubt what He can do thru us
"We all make mistakes sometimes We all have failed where we stand tonight Look past, learn, and move on We're all here You're not the only one" - saying once again we're in it together, we all get our walk with Christ wrong, but get up, learn and move on when we fall down
i'm not sure how Audrey fits into all of this but meh.. :)
I completely agree with you, theyell4. That's what I always thought this song was about [that's why I love it so much XDD ]

'Amateur youth, sling down those signs Gather the masses, friends of mine I've got your back if you've got my hand This isn't over, it just began'
'We all fail, but we stand tonight'
These lyrics make me think of the time just before plunging into a battle (not with guns, but with words and the truth) beside his love (possibly whoever Audrey is). It sounds like a romance blossoming just as the revolution is about to begin, with the youth fighting for what they believe. I wonder why it's always the youth, or the students, that start revolutions. Always so idealistic and brave, fighting for a better world. shrug
I'm not entirely sure why, but that's the impression I got.
so good
great song. anberlin's new album rocks hard. their first one was really good, but this one might even be better. this is definately my personal favorite song on the cd, although "a day late" is a close, close second. Great sogn about a a guy who needs a girl to take a chance. Seems its always that way with us guys, we're always ready to dive in head first and the girl is merely tip toeing into it. tell her to take a chance, take a leap of faith and you'll be right there to catch her.
God Bless.
I love this song. It always makes me wanna dance.
I agree that it's about a guy jsut wanting the girl to take a chance on him & jsut go all in for him.
"So say you’re in With cards down and guns drawn; this is it! " I love that part
Any connection to the Moulin Rouge? I could be pulling crap outta air here-- but the original writer of their play "Spectacular spectacular" was the argentinian named Audrey. then Christian took over writing and assumed the title "Voice of the revolution". Sounds alot like what could intertwine the lyrical base of the chorus and verses... they are different, but blend together. Alot like Audreys song in the movie "El tango de roxanne".
Wow. Now that you mention that connection to Moulin Rouge, it does make sense. I wonder. I guess we'll never know.
I never thought about the moulin rouge connection, that's really cool! This song is so awesome, The first time I listented to it, it seemed almost like the chorus didn't fit, because the first two verses almost make me think of a riot where as the chorus talks about love and stuff. It's really cool though, awesome song!
yeah now that you tie it all together like that it makes senses maybe thats where they got the inspiration
but its any amazing song anyways..makes me think i wanna get back with my ex
Awesome song for love, rioting or dancing, very cool, gotta love Anberlin =D
