Every Person Lyrics

You take me by the hand
A hand's all I feel right now
It's all I am
It's all that I am
You think that I'm a man
I beg to differ
For I am her as much as I'm me
You know this moment in time
Is all my life
Every day is each day thats past
Every person alive is everyone who's died
A ship out in the distance
Is here if I draw it
Multiply time by letting it go by
You paint a star
You give many years ago
New life and it appreciates it
You know this moment in time
Is all my life
Everyday is each day that's past
Every person alive is everyone who's died

I love the line "For I am her as much as I'm me".

For some reason, it really resonates with me.

I think hes trying to suggest a way to think about life - to think of life in the context of past, present, and future. Once you do this I think he is saying that the result is that you can get the most out of the present time.

"Every day is each day thats past." "A hand's all I feel right now. It's all I am."

Acknowledging the pasts affect on the present, and then taking advantage of thinking this way by getting the maximum out of the present.

Tough song to understand - but very good nonetheless.

"you know this moment in time is all my life, every day is each day thats passed, every person alive is everyone who's died" The only time you really have any control over is the present, but at the same time everyone, and everything, from the past affects you, your views on things, and how you change the present.

"A ship out in the distance is here if i draw it"

I think that it means that he can try to change his fate, it may not be a ship in the distance, but he will try to make it "appear"

I expressed myself wrong, the ship may be out in the distance, but he can try to get it closer

I think it means something about we as people repeating the past, having past lives and our present life is a repeat of our past lives. The "I am her as much as I am me" I think means that he feels he's lived as woman before and all these lives he's lived before (as men and women) make him who he is now; so he's "her" someone he was in the past as much as he iswho he is now.

Well, I wouldn't agree totally with mrsfrusciante, but then again most John's lyrics can be interpreted and understood on million ways.

Anyway, this is certainly one of my all-time favourite songs.

I believe that it speaks about love and art. Or love for art. Or whatever you want it to... ;)
