For Today I Am a Boy Lyrics
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful woman
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful girl
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful woman
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful girl
But for today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
One day I'll grow up, I'll feel the power in me
One day I'll grow up, of this I'm sure
One day I'll grow up, I know womb within me
One day I'll grow up, feel it full and pure
But for today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful girl
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful woman
One day I'll grow up, I'll be a beautiful girl
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
One day I'll grow up, of this I'm sure
One day I'll grow up, I know womb within me
One day I'll grow up, feel it full and pure
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy
For today I am a child, for today I am a boy

i think this song is definitely about being transgender, but i think it's also about accepting who you are, but knowing that you can someday be more, someday you can become what you really really want to be.
he has the most beautiful voice i have ever heard (okay, MAJOR understatement) some of the best piano too
against_me, i'm think it is "a womb within me." i've always heard that as well. it seems like "i know whom within me" isn't enough syllables to match the song. and plus, it doesn't even make a whole lot of sense. "a womb" fits a lot better.
this is such a beautiful song. i especially love their new c.d and the best part is that they're playing a show at the warhol museum next week! i haven't see them for 3 or so years. [giddly spreads excitement]
for me, antony's songs aren't especially about the lyrics, but about how he manipulates them with his voice. the words to this song seem really simple when you read them, but when you hear him SING them, that's when they feel powerful.
i agree with "yourtwowinters" - antonys emotion &voice gives is what makes his songs. saw them live few weeks ago &his voice is incredible.who needs a band or good lyrics when you can sing like he does. his repeating of the line of the lastverse just gives me chills
i think these are good lyrics! he doesnt give us anything we don't need. we feel his angst and pain being stuck between two genders and i wish i wish i wish i could see them live!
i always thought he was saying. "One day I'll grow up, I'll know a womb within me" instead of "I know whom within me." Personally i think it sounds better as "i'll know a womb within in me." It makes more sense and it's actually kind of touching. I'm not sure but if that's not the lyric I wish it was.
I've always heard it as "know a womb." It makes sense given the context and it's a much more powerful lyric.

Oh my goodness this whole album is a weird little miracle.
I read somewhere that this is about transgendered and that makes perfect sense but that's not really how I personally interpret it. To me it's more about feeling small and if not ugly, then at least unremarkable, and wanting to grow up into something bigger and beautiful and powerful. And I like the way that this song is pretty touching to me in that way. It can work on different levels for different people.
i do not believe this song is about the transgendered at all.
i think he uses that as a metaphor. saying that we should become what we really want to be no matter what the consequences. (being transgendered would come along with consequences).
i believe he says for today i am a boy, because he knows he doesn't have the power or drive to reach his dreams. yet.
i have no problem with the transgendered. it isn't my preference, that's true, but i just think that it is strictly a metaphor.
Pretty simple: Someday (sometimes) I'll have to be responsible and mature, but today (at the moment) I am free. Free from guilt, shame, anxiety and everything that comes with adult expectations. It's okay, I can relax. This is beautiful.
