"Save my Life I'm going down for the last time" refers to when a druggie puts his head down to snort a line. Great song though.
Yeah. I love this song. It's one of my all time favorites. I could not believe there was only one comment on it. You didn't say what your interpretation is. I think it is about a guy who is really in love with someone and she is totally indifferent to his feelings. Although, I could be way off!
Sorry, I didn't finish, it's about a dude that does cocaine, but his girlfriend doesn't want him to, so every time he does it it's his "Last time." It's kind of sad that way I guess.

The music is what grabs you tho... reminds me of an amusement park ride called the Himalayan. Anyone remember it?
The lyric is definitely "better than a white line" (not "better than a white lie"). It makes much more sense that way, sounds more like what the singer is saying, and "line" rhymes with "time" better than with "lie"... (also other sites have it right - i.e. "line", not "lie"). Anyway, how do you fix the lyrics? Someone should, as its at least one of the most important lines (so to speak) in the song, and should be correct... (and its definitely a great song)
I had not heard this song in about 10 years. I never took it seriously until I was stuck in rush hour traffic. WOW, it hit home! Like as if it was the band was relaying my exact feelings at that very moment about my GF who I dumped but I later regreted it. "Would you like some affection before I leave again?" kind of speaks for itself so do "Ive been walking behind you" and "do you ever think of me, I'm just another one yea". The entire song runs paralell with our relationship. Annie if I ever hurt you then please accept my deepest most sincere apology.

My thought on this is that it's about an old Coke head who's used up and he doesn't have much respect for himself anymore and out of the blue he realizes that this fine young lady wants to get together with him that he's known since she was a little girl and that's why he says there's never been any reason for you to think about me in his mind the age difference is always been too big of a thing but here he is realizing that she's attracted to him and he can't believe it and so he says to himself save my life I'm going down for the last time cuz he probably didn't even suspect that he would ever get laid again and now he's getting laid by a really beautiful Young voluptuous babe that's my take on it
My mother's boyfriend was a concert manager and she got to party with many bands back in the 70s and her favorite was Head East. Amazing, I know! I was like NO WAY! This song is perfectly amazing and it's a shame more people haven't heard it.
