Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Lyrics
I’ve always wanted
To eat glass with you again
But I never knew how
How to talk without
Walls dropping on the eve
The nest they made couldn’t break you
Along the fallen
Scowled a fence of beaks
But the temple is scathing
Through your veins
They were scaling
Through an ice pick of abcess rekoning
And when Miranda sang
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
And whoever said that they would scatter
Separating the mother from child
She can bat a broken eyelid
Raining maggots from it’s sty
And with the traces that she leaves
She will skin you out alive
All the children go grinding their jaws
The sweet smell of their toothless canals
And the damn she will break
Make an ocean from this lake
As they siphon off all of our blood
And when Miranda sang
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
And when Miranda sang
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
And when Miranda sang
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
To eat glass with you again
But I never knew how
How to talk without
Walls dropping on the eve
Along the fallen
Scowled a fence of beaks
But the temple is scathing
Through your veins
They were scaling
Through an ice pick of abcess rekoning
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
Separating the mother from child
She can bat a broken eyelid
Raining maggots from it’s sty
And with the traces that she leaves
She will skin you out alive
The sweet smell of their toothless canals
And the damn she will break
Make an ocean from this lake
As they siphon off all of our blood
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey
And when Miranda sang
Everyone turned away
Used to the noose
They obey

At the very beginning of the song, when he's singing over the chorus of frogs chirping, I don't know why, but it reminded me vaguely of Malon (the horse Epona's keeper) from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The manner in which he's singing sounds EXACTLY like her.
That being said....this song is epic.
ha ha ha diferent strokes for different folks the mars volta + kush buds + 900mg DXM c'mon wiether youre fucking wasted of completly sober the mars volta is the way to go
On another note, Miranda is Vismund's grandmother.
Frances is Vismund's mom, L'Via is Frances's sister, and Miranda is L'Via's mother. Proven by your's truly and the power of simple logic.
My interpretation:
Miranda, that ghost just isn’t holy anymore”
Miranda is a ghost of what people thought of her. She is not holy because they believe she has fallen victim to deviating from societal norms.
“I’ve always wanted To eat glass with you again But I never knew how How to talk without Walls dropping on the eve”
They wanted to talk with them, But they didn’t know how to truly let go without coming back to their predisposed and learned beliefs, closing the openness of the conversation.
“The nest they made couldn’t break you Along the fallen Scowled a fence of beaks But the temple is scathing Through your veins They were scaling Through an ice pick of abcess rekoning”
Society provided the acceptable norm in which to live by. The comfort of a home, a temple of safety. They metaphorically flowed through their veins, the brain, with what is good and bad trying to guide them, but was unable to change her. Fence of beaks. How birds group together and chirp. How people group together and gossip, feeling “above” her. And “looking down” on her.
“And when Miranda sang Everyone turned away Used to the noose They obey”
Everyone turned a blind eye to her, as she was free from the chains in which we constrain ourselves.
“And the damn she will break Make an ocean from this lake”
Her mind free from the conforming to acceptable social constructs. She will live in a greater understanding. She will view her surroundings in a much greater aspect due to this.
“As they siphon off all of our blood”
As we fall victim to the brainwashing we learn growing up, unable to break free

God I love the horns! And I love the opening lines it sounds like he's just saying I always wanted to have a cigarette with you, but he can't just come right out and say it. Which is what makes the volta great. Cause if you give it some thought, cigarettes use to have fiberglass filters, so eat glass makes sense with all the other smoking references throughout the album.
Ok this song seems to be the death of the main character, as she's been convicted of her crime and now sentenced to death. I'm not quite sure if Miranda is her or a daughter. But obviously no one has come to the main character's aid.
"And when Miranda sang Everyone turned away" as in nobody dared to help. And "Used to the noose they obey" I think just signifies that they all know what would happen to them in society if they stood up for her killing her husband. Which is what I believe is going on in this album, along with some other story I haven't totally figured out yet.
Does anybody else feel this way or am I crazy?
from what i heard, a lot of the story on this album is based on some strange diary that Jeremy Ward found a while ago...i dont know if thats true or not
what we see here is exactly what happens when well read people take drugs and make concept albums the whole album is like a tree every word or line can spawn off a hundred explanations for one concept
i think in order to understand the album we need to be informed what time period the album is set in because the music and some of the words remind us of all the different time periods the world hs incurred yet some have very futuristic vibes however i am pretty certaing the location is mexico
@cassandragemini5 TMV gave up drugs right around the time of their first album due to a friend's death. Their older material (At The Drive In) is very heavily drug influenced, but not this.
