Hole in the World Lyrics
There's a hole in the world tonight
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow
They say that anger is just love disappointed
They say that love is just a state of mind
But all this fighting over who will be anointed
Oh how can people be so blind
There's a hole in the world tonight
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow
Oh they tell me there's a place over yonder
Cool water running through the burning sand
Until we we learn to love one another
We never reach the promised land
There's a hole in the world tonight
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow
They say that love is just a state of mind
But all this fighting over who will be anointed
Oh how can people be so blind
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow
Cool water running through the burning sand
Until we we learn to love one another
We never reach the promised land
There's a cloud of fear and sorrow
There's a hole in the world tonight
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow

This song to me means that people here in america should work together and not fight. This song was made due to 9/11. That day was a devestating day for all men, women, and children here in the USA. It is also saying that we should believe in each other and quit our fighting amongst our selves.
It's a beautiful song, that has a place closer to my heart than 9/11. I'm not American, and I was not affected personally by the events of that day (I am in no way saying it as not a horrible day, but I have no personal ties there at all).
It is such a fitting song in this world of ours today... We're not accpeting, and until we are, we will not reach the 'promised land'.
This song is beautiful-harmonies, lyrics, etc. It is obviously about 9/11, but it can apply to more than just that. The overlapping lyrics signify that we let all the little things bother us, but nobody is seeing the big picture. Using 9/11 as an example: in the days/months after, all that we could think about was going to war, and retaliating, and kicking someone else's butt. But we are missing the picture: look at how evil humanity has become. Look at the destruction. There's a hole at ground zero, but there's also a "hole in the world." Lack of peace. Basically they're saying we will never get anywhere by hating anyone.
"But all this fighting over who will be anointed, oh how can people be so blind" =all we want to do is fight, fight, fight. We are missing the Big picture.
So beautiful.
