Some Clear Joy Is Coming Lyrics
Father John in the driveway
comes here to bless me
My Father in the morning
will bend to hear me.
Some clear joy is coming on some slowest train,
I am hearing it coming again.
Flowerless in the country,
birdless in the spring,
my man and I are weeping,
we have been weeping.
Some clear joy is coming on some slowest trains.
Do you hear that it's coming again?
comes here to bless me
My Father in the morning
will bend to hear me.
Some clear joy is coming on some slowest train,
I am hearing it coming again.
birdless in the spring,
my man and I are weeping,
we have been weeping.
Some clear joy is coming on some slowest trains.
Do you hear that it's coming again?

What - no Innocence Mission fans on here?
I think it's about anticipation, of waiting, of being in a bad (or good) moment, waiting for an even better moment to come.
But what a beautiful song - utterly sublime.
I know Karen and Don struggled for a long time with infertility ("birdless"). I know they are faithful Catholics -- I think that this song is about waiting...for ..the clear joy...of heaven, of possible children - maybe they were even pregnant then? "Father John in the driveway comes here to bless me" - is , I think, their priest giving them a blessing either for them and fertility, or becuase she was newly pregnant. Beautiful song, hopeful, peaceful but full of the pain..with meaning.
